Having now had the mirena out for almost a year I feel like a different person. I think that generally, hormonal contraceptives do not work for some people, causing mood swings and even suicidal thoughts, acne and painful menstruation. Personally I cannot. I don't see why women should be prepared to put up with such side-effects. If it is causing you problems, get it removed! I had mine for about a year and a half and I can't BELIEVE I waited so long to have it taken out. Only thing is, I still suffer from acne. It is not really bad or even very noticeable, but I had never had acne before(I'm 24) and now I have a kind of roughness on my back and chest and a bit on my face. HOWEVER, I do not suffer from depression, mood swings and cramps in the way I did before. My boyfriend just uses condoms now and although at first it was a bit of a pain, its fine now!

I'm really happy to hear than you are feeling back to normal! Not only because it gives me hope but I'm happy for you as a fellow Mirena victim (haha). how long before you felt completely like yourself again? Was it the 6 months everyone is saying? Did you experience setbacks or slow going during this time? Or was it all so gradual you didn't notice?
Sorry for all the questions. Hope you don't mind answering.

Yes, this gives the rest of us hope!! I am 4 months post removal and feeling much better but hoping for improvement in energy level and libido. Have not had a period since the month before removal, am having hot flashes and my FSH level indicated that I was squarely in menopause (at 43) when prior to Mirena I was having normal cycles. Just repeated my labs yesterday so will know next week where I am and what the plan is. Nice to know that you can really recover from this....many of us here are tracking our "progress" based on what others have experienced. Thanks for sharing with us!!
