My sister in law loved it. I think she had it for 3 years but she wanted to get pregnant and had it removed in January 2008. She didn't have any of the side effects I've experienced. I think I personally may have had either a low tolerance to the hormone or more likely a bad reaction to my periods slowly diminishing because gradually they got shorter and lighter and as they did my symptoms got worse.
There's a chance it may be great for you. I would just listen to your body.
I have been on Mirena since May 2007 and at first it was a bit uncomfortable, but I am now LOVING IT! I was a bit worried about the bloating but that went away. I was already diagnosed with PCOD before hand and already having hormone issues. The pregnancy I had just went through was a total shock to me and I wanted to make sure there were no more "suprises" to add to my already full family of 3 girls! If all else fails and you are looking for long term birth control you could always try Implanon. I am a nurse and have heard MANY good things from patients about this one. I originally was supposed to get this one, but for insurance reasons settled for Mirena. GOOD LUCK to you on the Mirena! I hope that all goes well. Give it some time and in the mean time, Midol helps!
This registry is a place to share positive or negative side effects of using Mirena. If you directly experienced a side effect while using Mirena, then we encourage you to enter it here. Please note that entries here are the experiences of individual users, and in no way means that you or anyone else will experience the same side effect, since the same medication affects people in different ways. Please always contact your physician.
