I gave my 12 year old son one Lactaid Fast Act caplet with his ice cream last night and he has been vomiting and having diarrhea all day today. It was the first time we ever tried any lactase. Any relationship? He has been recently diagnosed as lactose intolerant.
Recently, I have had the same reaction to Lactaid--feeling as though I need to vomit, actually vomiting, or cramping shortly after taking it with a typical meal. In the past, I have taken the product with no side effects. I told my doctor about it, but he didn't seem to have an explanation. I'll also have to avoid the product from now on.
I have had a similar reaction. I had taken the lactaid fine for a month or two with no problems. Then one afternoon I ate some ice cream along with a Lactaid. A few hours later I was very nauseated and vomitted violently. I thought I had come down with a stomach flu. Then a week later I had another ice cream with a lactaid and within a few hours, I had the same reaction of violent vomitting. I won't be taking that product again. Miserable!
I've been up all night after taking this product and the last time I took it, the same vomiting spell occurred...you're right, it lasts a few hours. Weird, but I'm not taking this product, I'd rather have gas!
