I was so amazed to read your article. Just recently the same thing happened to me. I lost all my children. They won't speak to me. I was a monester. I felt awful. I did not want to live and knew I was the cause of all the problems in our family but did not know why until thankfully one day my perscription money ran out and I had to buy my meds. I decided to let go of Omeprazole and try this on my own. I was taking it to sleep at night. Within 3 to 4 days I was a changed person. I could not believe how great I felt. Then I realized what had been happening. I feel like a new person now but unfortunately my family is not back together and I may never be able to undo what I did to those I love the most. This drug is a killer drug and should be taken off the market. I would love to help those who do not know what this can do to your life before it is to late for them. Thank you for your information, it confirms now that I am not the only one who has gone through this.

I have also been so sick, can barely breathe, from Prilosec, Protonix, and Nexium. Think I would have died had I continued taking a proton pump inhibitor. How can action be taken against these drugs?

my dad has been on this for about a month now and seems to be helping him,however all this information on this page is frightening.hes a 66 yr old man in fair condition and he couldnt keep any food down they tried him on prilosec and nexium and they worked for a few days or a week but then it got worse so now its OMEPRAZOLE 2o mg 2xs daily...his side effect is diareah after every meal almost immediately so how does he go out for dinner anywhere?how imbarresing so what does he do???is there another drug as effective as these other ones or does he live with the diareah and worry about the other side effects that he may or may not get?????im concerned for him and dont know what i should tell him to do especially when your own doctor puts you on something like this and then tells ya to go see a phyciatrist how sick is that???i feel for everyone that has delt with this med and hopefully i can figure this out for my dad!!!thanks to all you might have saved a life from all this information!!!!!!

Sorry to hear what you have experienced. I have similar symptoms its been more than a year it didn't go away. I had high blood pressure and was using athenolol and had pains around my chest. I went to doctor and it was related with my stomach so I started Omeprazole 20mg and used it for 6 months.

During this period I was trying to get off athenolol as I didnt want to use any drugs anymore. So I stopeed using athenolo but after 3 months I was having pressure in my head, it got more frequent in time turned into lighthededness (what i mean is that eyes feel like being drunk, blurry and not able to focus well and in time, its like looking to the world from camera). I was thinking that this feeling is related with my blood pressure and stopping of the medication so I kept on using omeprazole for 6 months. During this time this drunk like feeling got more frequent and after a year now its everyday.

So I started blood pressure medication again this time different drug but the drunk feeling didn't go away so I undrestood it wasnt related with my blood pressure. I went and done all the checkups nothing was found.

Almost a year has passed over using omeprazole now. I was feeling better by time and this drunk like feeling was getting less in time. Recently I got stomach problems again and started using Omeprazole again and blurred, foggy, drunk like feeling which also makes you confused and being not able to focus, ringing in ears, symptoms got worsen again, plus it didn't give me relief of my stomach even made it worse, so now I understand these sysmptoms are all related with this Omeprazole.

How come these drugs can exist and they can be prescribed. I am having horrible year because of this feeling and because of this drug. DO NOT EVER USE IT. I will sue these comanpies who produce this drug!!!

I am a 54 years old doctor in Brazil.I have been taking omeprazole for the last 30 days....I just came from the ICU after a "red bloody eye" related to a Hypertension acute crisis.....(I never had Hypertension before).My oftalmologist realized that my eyes presure raised up to 17 (it was 13 before).All this mess can not be only the stress I have been under for the last weeks.THERE ARE VERY FEW REPORTS OF OMEPRAZOLE EYE SIDE EFECTS....DO YOU KNOW SIMILAR REPORTS?Julio Wilson Fernandes,MD jwf@uol.com.br
