I was given a free 10 day coupon for Avelox by a physician to treat an awful cold that wouldn't go away. He also wrote a prescription for, and I got it filled at a pharmacy, an inhaler. Avelox is the WORST medicine I have ever encountered in my 69 years!! I took it for 4 days and QUIT (today) the *^%(% thing. Who wants to be dizzy, crabby, anxious, short with people, impatient, thirsty all the time, constantly gasping for breath, and NO energy at all? Bayer should be prosecuted, condemned for creating this poison pill. I can't believe this med it is still allowed for public consumption!??

Kathy - Your doctor is an idiot. Avelox will not treat any viral infection (like the flu or an "awful cold"). It's designed to treat bacterial infections. Also, what kind of inhaler did you use? From what my Doctors (urgent care physician and personal physician) have told me - Avelox is the most powerful antibiotic they can prescribed. I was given Avelox today 6/10/08 after a 10 day battle with pneumonia/bronchitis (both lungs) an ear infection and sinus infection after 10 days of Biaxin did not kill the bacteria. Avelox is so potent it kills off both bad and "good" bacteria, which means you have to take probiotics while you're taking the Avelox to keep your stomach calm and your digestive system active. I was also told to drink plenty of water (as always) and that the Avelox would probably make me tired. I'm sorry you suffered so much with the dizziness/crabbiness/anxiety and everything else - and I hope this can be of some help in the future. Different drugs obviously work different on different people. I've got 9 days to go on the Avelox - I will email or put up a new post with updates if anyone would like to know how things go.

I was just put on Avelox. It is so expensive. My doctor doesn't have coupons. Where can I get one to try it?

I get CHRONIC sinus infections and Avelox is THE ONLY antibiotic that works for me!! am 31 years old and have had sinus surgery to try to correct the problem, but so far I am STILL plagued with these horribe infections!! I have tried EVERY medication/antibiotic out there, expect penicillins, (which I am allergic to) and they MIGHT help for a few days, but as SOON as I am done with them, it comes RIGHT back!! The Avelox is by far the best for me, and although, I MAY get a little dry mouthed, EVERYONE one does on any kind of decongestant,(which is usually taken in conjunction with an antibiotic to "DRY YOU UP".) I have never noticed any other side affects!!

By the way, i WISH I was given a free 10 day coupon, my husband has been laid off for a yr, and I recently lost my job so we have NO Insurance and 2 children!! I Have to go pick up a script for Avelox now, due to ANOTHER sinus infection, and was searcjing for coupons when I came across this.Thank you to the person who said to take the probitics with it, I also have IBS and I'm SUPPOSE to take probiotics for that, but never remember to, I DO have them and will take them with this dose of Avelox! Thanks again!
