My mother is on Toprol-XL, and she has complained of being so fatigued, she sleeps so much, and this is someone who has always had a tremendous amount of energy. The other thing, and I would love a reply to this - she said she's experienced something at night while sleeping that feels like a seizure. She describes this as follows, "like my brain is shaking or trembling inside my head and my hands are trembling too." Has anyone else experienced this? Please let me know.

I was on Toprol XL for fifteen months and I had many of the side effects that everyone on this site mentions and this was the only medication I was taking. In the beginning it was awful and some lessened with time and some did not, especially the fatigue, and I did not have every symptom every day. But one was unusual and very bad and that happened about a month after being on the medication. During the night I would awaken suddenly with the feeling that I was falling and it was as though I could not get completely awake. I would just turn over, go back to sleep and it would happen all over again. I discovered if I slept on the couch it did not happen so I think it was from the movement in the bed plus on the couch I had something solid to lay against. This was a horrible time for me and I have since switched to another beta blocker with far fewer side effects. I had to argue with my doctor in order to make the change but please talk to your Mother's doctor about her side effects. They are real and no one should have to live like that when there are alternatives out there. Good luck to you and to her.

Yes, I am having those seizures too! Last night I dreamt I was falling into a quivering mass of flesh, trying to resist it, and then just dove in, unable to remain outside of it. I felt myself slipping into unconsciousness when some involuntary impulse shocked me awake. I have been getting these type of seizures with for about 2 years and when I first went to the doctor they diagnosed me with sleep apnea. I have an apnea machine which I use regularly but the seizures still continue.

Fortunately I was told by my cardiologist a month ago I could begin to reduce the dosage, so I am down to 50 mg a day instead of 100. I will now go down another 25 because I need to get off this roller coaster. If you have any advice or think I should go more slowly than that please share with me your experience.
