I am a 56 year old woman and my doctor started me on 10 mg Lisinopril in March. Within 24 hours of starting it I developed a very annoying cough. At my next doctors visit she told me my bp was not down enough and wanted to increase the dosage. When I asked her if the cough could be from the Lisinopril she gave me some samples of Benecar HCT. The only problem I had with that was muscle weakness and some palpitations that went away after a few days. When I got the prescription filled I found that my insurance didn't cover it and it was quite expensive so I called my doctor back and she wanted me to try the Lisinopril again at 20mg and see what happened. That very same night the cough came back with a vengeance, along with dizziness. I decided to try to tough it out but after ten days now the cough is so bad it's unbearable. It keeps me up at night and I cough till I gag and cry. On several occasions I have coughed until I vomited. I couldn't take it any more and stopped taking it two days ago. I called my doctor today and she told me to stop taking it and now we're going to try Norvasc.

This is so helpful to know that I am not the only one having the nagging cough. I feel that I could cough up my lungs! I gag and could vomit, but never do. I feel like my throat is swollen and maybe my tongue too. I had a ruptured brain aneursym this Feb and take so many meds. Lisinopril is one to help with BP, even tho I don't have BP problems. I have talked to my doctor several times and have even taken Prednisone thinking the cough might be an infection, but this did't help. I see my doc again this week so I will be sure to tell him about the side effects posted here.

I started taking Lisinopril the middle of March 08. Within a couple of weeks I developed a dry annoying cough. The cough seems to happen mid morning, late afternoon and at bedtime. I could not take it anymore, I am a public speaker, so I can not be coughing all the time. I told the doctor to put me on another BP med. I stopped taking it on June 6th 08. I still have the cough, but not as frequent. I looked on the internet and it said it can take 14 days to several months before it goes away. This is ridiculous. I have never taken BP pills before, and I dont want to take them now! 50 was fabulous until Lisinopril!

I have started taking this drug for about a month and have had the same dry hacking cough. It keeps me up at night and the only time I get a peaceful sleep is if I take a sleeping pill. I also get the dizzy spells and blurred vision. I thought I was getting something else wrong with me. I am glad I found this sight also. I don't feel bad knowing everyone feels the same symptoms I do. I am going to see my doctor tomorrow and asking him to take me off this drug.
