You people are freaking me out. I just started today with my first dose of prednisone for my first bronchitis diagnosis. I've been sick for 3 months and thought this would be a good med for me to rid the coughing. I'm starting to reconsider taking any more if all I can expect is long term adverse effects. I took this once before years ago for a severe skin allergy. I got the psychosis initially but then adjusted the dose. Then, I would get euphoric and full of energy, like being on a stimulant. I had no idea the round face thing was due to this, I thought I just ate too much while I was home sick for 2 months. I think I'll try the herbal alternative route. If it works, I'll write again and let y'all know. Thanks for all the comments.

I don't know if anyone else has replied to your question or if you check for answers but my advise is to find something else to help you.
Prednisone is the drug from hell and it's sooo hard to get off of. The withdrawals are killer. I have been off it for 10 weeks and am still having withdrawal symptoms.
It sucks, it totally sucks!!

I have a history of chronic bronchitis, and finally went to a pulmonologist. He did some testing and determined that I had non-acute asthma, and probably had had it since I was a child. He tested me on Advair for a month, and it really increased my breathing capacity. Although it has a steroid in it, it is specific to the lungs, not systemic like prednisone, and I have been very happy with it.

Like many others on this list, I have had a nightmare with prednisone. It was prescribed for hives, and I had the range of side effects: weakness, nightmares and insomnia, nausea, anxiety. I only took it for three days and I believe that it started a cascade of inflammatory reactions that went into arthritis and acute asthma. I will never take it again.

Best of luck with your bronchitis.

Judith

I too have bronchitis and the constant cough. The advair was doing the treat for me. So, I started the prednisone for four days.
How long were you on the. prednisone?

Please try advair or something elese, I have been on prednisone for 8 years and I am 28 and feel like I am 90 yrs old, they diagnosed me with chronic bronchitis and chronic sinus, please reconsider. I have 2 children and I have to home school due to the prednisone making my immune system so weak, and It made me develope tumors, so Please if I could turn back time I would have never got on this med. You know once you start this med. you have to taper down real slow or it could be fatal. Well in my case I cant taper down, my body wont allow me to. It sounds like you have the same illness, so try somehting alot safer, if you can.
