Has anyone had extreme heavy bleeding/clots after having the Mirena removed? This is day 3. The last time I had such heavy bleeding I had just had my son. When do you start to worry about the bleeding?

Don't worry yet...this is normal after the removal. I had mine removed May 6th, and 2 days later started my 1st period. Very heavy with large clots and lasted about 5 days. Then I had a second period less than a week later, again lasting for about 5 days with large clots. About a week after that one stopped, I spotted for 2 or 3 days. Now three weeks later, I am havign a very normal period...moderate flow, no major clotting. It's just your body stabilizing and returning to normal. Some women don't have their periods for several weeks after removal, some of us start within a few days. Time does heal...just give yourself some time. If the bleeding and clots last for a week or more, you'll need to go see the doc. Or sooner if you're also having any other symptoms, such as light-headed, fever, sharp pain, etc. Good luck to you!

Yep. Heavy bleeding and big clots. I think it's a good thing. Ridding your body of a lot of Mirena crap.

I had the same problem. Had mine removed over two weeks ago and except for a couple of odd days where it was light and not noticeable, I have bled heavily and experienced huge clots (alomst as big as the palm of my hand). I am SO hoping this bleeding will stop soon. But mentally I feel so much better than I did with the Mirena fitted.

I had a severe problem. I had mine taken out 7-2-08. By 7-10-08 I was bleeding through an OVERNIGHT pad every hour. Went to ER on friday, was released on Premarin and iron pills for blood loss. By Saturday, I was extremely pale, nauseous, and weak. Went back to ER, and was told I lost 2.5 more points in my blood count (was down to 7). Before I was even admitted Saturday night, I fell in the bathroom, started convulsing from shock of rapid loss of blood. I was given 3 units of blood from Sat late to early Sunday. After 3 units of blood transfused I was still at only 5.9! I was bleeding faster than I could be infused with the blood. I passed out three times Saturday night, and blood pressure dropped to 90/40, my normal being 120/70. I thought I was going to die. Sunday evening I had another D&C to stop the bleeding. It has since slowed, but doc put me on Hi Dose birth control pills. I finally was discharged last night. I was hoping to get pregnant soon. Now I am not sure if I ever will. I will NEVER have any sort of hormonal implant in my body ever again. I don't even want to use the pill, except that it is meant to regulate my hormonal imbalance. The thought that I could have bled to death in my sleep Saturday night (if not admitted to the hospital) scared the crap out of me. I wish Mirena would have THAT warning on their label!

I hate to say it but I am so happy to find this thread. I had my Mirena removed 9 days ago and have been experiencing very heavy bleeding with large clots since then (and I had been bleeding with my period for 9 days prior to that.) I am counting the minutes til I stop bleeding but I am so thrilled to have the Mirena out. Has anyone heard of the removal process causing tears to explain the bleeding? Just curious as I talked to a nurse tonight who suggested that it be the cause of the bleeding. Good luck to everyone.

On the one hand, it's great to feel that I'm not alone, but on the other it's really scary to read about all these experiences, especially #10183... I had my mirena removed a week ago (after having had it without any major side effects for a year and a half). No pain, no spotting immediately after removal, but some 5 five days after I started bleeding and at times it becomes REALLY heavy. This morning started with clots. When is the time to worry and go to see the doctor to avoid the horrifying blood loss experience above? Thanks in advance for your help!

I wish I had never had the Mirena inserted. It is a complete nightmare! I had it inserted on Thursday and removed on the following Tuesday. My mind is at ease knowing that is is out of me, but the bleeding is horrifying... The first day it was removed I experienced really light bleeding, then all hell broke loose on Wednesday morning, It is like a fountain that I can not turn off. Does anyone know how long this will last... Since my doctors all have different answers... They were all into the idea of the Mirena, I guess it brings in revenue...It is all a scheme to sell the product to as many patients possible. My advise is don't get the Mirena...Exhaust all other birth control options first.

I am so glad I have found this site, I had the Mirena removed about 4 weeks ago, had short heavy bleeding for a few days 3 days later. Now, though 4 weeks later I am having the period from hell.

As somebody else put it here like a fountain, I am going through tampons at an alarming rate, and there are loads of blood clots, it's really quite scarey.

My doctor told me this coil was the answer to all my prayers, but basically it has been the worst experience of my life, depression, weight gain, hairloss, and now this terrible bleeding.

I am going to my doctors later and taking all these postings with me, I'll let you know what she says....

I had my mirena removed after 3 years with no periods but very sore breasts and absolutely evil migraines. I had it removed so that I can try for a baby., I had no problem after removal and shortly after had a normal period - 4 days quite normal bleeding. I counted out the 28 days in my diary as to when I would start again - after 32 days I started my monthly. It started off as normal for one day and for the past two days now I have been bleeding at an alarming rate. I have not experienced anything like this at all. I am going through tampons/towels at the rate of one every hour (using super duper ones). I don't have any big clots coming out but seem to have lots and lots of little ones. This post has given me some hope for the fact that other people have gone through this so it does appear to be a side effect of removal. I'll just have to ride the storm out and hope that it stops soon. My fiance bought me some Guinness to drink as a way of resstoring some iron to my body!! It just worries me that my body is going to be so messed up that it takes a long time for me to get pregnant :-(

I had my Mirena removed two days ago...this morning I was at work and I suddently felt blood gushing out. I ran to the bathroom and had huge clots and profuse bleeding. It freaked me out...thank goodness I was able to get a pad AND a tampon or I would have had to go home. I've been changing my tampon once an hour and I'm still bleeding through to the pad. I removed the Mirena due to CONSTANT spotting. I was told that I might have bleeding that day (a year ago I was told that Mirena is wonderful for women with heavy periods - HA!) but I had no idea that I would bleed like this. Thank goodness that I found this post. I'll defnitely call my doctor if this continues. And I'm getting married in a week. I sure hope this goes away....

Yea I got mine removed on monday and I was so scared last night when I had so much blood soaked the pad and my clothes so quickly! I'm so happy to have that thing out and I'm so surprised how many people have the same side effect.

Wow.... I am in a book group with several ob/gyn drs and NPs as well as the RNs that work with them. They sang the praises for Mirena for months before I decided to trade in my Paragard for the Mirena. I was sold on the idea that it would help to reduce the severity of my periods that I was having with the Paragard. I had the Mirena in place for a little over 18months with little to no side effects (so I thought) until about 4 months ago when I started experiencing breakout bleeding at 10 day intervals. I also gained some weight and size in my lower abdomen and hip area that was troubling because I couldnt do anything to improve on it. I am a body builder/fitness trainer and am very astute on the subject of body transformation, so Im sure that you can imagine my frustration. In looking back, I have lost quite a bit of hair, but having tons of hair (thanks mom and dad) I didnt think that it was associated with the Mirena, I just thought that my hair care products needed switching up.

I had the Mirena removed 10 days ago at my loving boyfriends repeated urgings. (He had a vasectomy so pregnancy was no longer the fear, but I had such a horrible experience with the removal of the Paragard that I was reluctant to do it). His concern, and rightly so, was that placing artificial hormones in the body would do more harm than good. That mother nature knows best and just let her do her job! OK. So, the removal was thankfully uneventful (I ended up in surgery with the Paragard) a small sharp pain and then nothing. That was Thurday. By Sunday night I started to heavily spot. Monday morning, I dropped my boys off at school, went to the gym and then went home. After showering, it was like someone turned on the tap! I had moderate sized clots and one really large (and scary looking) one. This went on until Thursday. I removed any hygiene products - life is good! Friday was uneventful as was most of Saturday (today) until I stood up to answer the door (thank GOD is was my really good friend dropping by) and felt a rush of warm fluid. I ran to the bathroom and realized that I was in a full flow again with lots and lots of clots. I went thru an overnight pad in little over an hour while sitting. As soon as I stood up I soaked it and overflowed!

I have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and have irregular periods and minimal flow when I am not on ANY therapies so this is really disconcerting for me. I am thankful for all of you ladies before me who have posted their experiences because I couldnt find ANY information regarding such heavy bleeding and blood clots on any of the Bayer sites or and medical sites. The gift of your experiences have certainly helped me to realize that this is not uncommon, but also make me angry that there is nothing in the literature that prepares you for this nor exposes this risk/side effect so that you can make a better, more informed decision! Also, we should all wonder WHY our bodies are so eager to rid ourselves of this chemically derived hormone! And WHY the clotting? How am I producing so much endomitral tissue at such a fast rate? Is this just a build up from when I wasnt flowing before and my body is taking this opportunity to perform it's own DNC?

I obviously have a lot of unanswered questions, but am thankful that I am not alone in my quest for them.

(I would love to know when each of you balanced out or if you have balanced out yet?)

After back to back pregnancies with my youngest being born November 23, 2008 my obgyn recommended Mirena due to it having the "least amount of side effects" according to her. I gladly had it inserted on December 22, 2008. Insertion was painful but I thought nothing of it. A few days went by of spotting and then my period came. My ob made it clear that I may have bleeding/spotting but it will go away with time. June 07, 2009 My period has been continuous since I had it put in, my hair has fallen out so much that it looks like I have a comb over when I put my hair in a ponytail, I'm chronologically depressed and on medication. I have KILLER Migraines that start around the same time everyday. I gained a good 10 to 15 pounds on top of the baby weight that I was initially shedding. My face is now open for tours as it has replaced the rocky mountains from all the acne. I have monster cramps that travel from my abdomen to my back and down my leg at times. I have no sex drive and I'm a complete bitch to my husband, kids, family etc. I called my doctor to have it removed but since I have Kaiser (Kaiser sucks) and they don't consider it medically necessary to have it removed my ob has refused to answer my calls to setup an appointment. On June 10, 2009 I researched removal of Mirena on the OFFICAL FDA site and removed my own Mirena. The removal was not painful however I do recommend for you to see your doctor before attempting something like this. I'm angery at myself for not researching Mirena and I'm angery at doctors for recommending it to all there patients like it's the best thing ever. The only thing that makes me feel a little better is finding this site and being able to vent my experience. I'm sorry for all you ladies that had to go thru this but now I know I'm not the only one.

By the way, I too have been having big ugly "blob like" blood clots that have scared the shit out of me...

I have nothing good to say of my Mirena experience. I had mine placed 2 months after the birth of my daughter (painlessly). However, within a few days, I started bleeding and didn't stop for 8 months. Even after being placed on ADDITIONAL hormones to regulate the flow, I still was spotting at the very least. They call it the most effective birth control and it certainly was because my husband and I didn't have sex for that entire time! Anyway, at about the point when I wanted it out, it finally regulated and I had short and light periods ever since.

So now, we decided we wanted to try for another baby. I had it removed June 15th with a period due on the 21st. Instead, I started what I thought was my period on June 17th (2 days after removal) and have been having HEAVY bleeding and quarter-sized clots for 6 days now with no let up in sight.

I am going to be so upset if I have to put up with this for weeks or even months. I 've already emailed my Dr. to try and be proactive about anything they can put me on, but I think anything they use to regulate me is going to be another form of birth control which ultimately defeats the purpose of why I had Mirena taken out in the first place.

I'll keep you posted and keep checking this board. Glad (kind of) to know I'm not the only one suffering!

Wow, I googled mirena removal and clotting just in case there was anything out there, never guessing it was "normal." I had my Mirena removed last Wednesday, got my "period" on Friday, and have been horrified at the heavy flow and scary large clots and tissue like blobs I have been expelling! After very very light periods when I had it in, I was in no way expecting anything like this, nor did anyone tell me this could happen. I was really worried about it, but this has, sadly, put my mind at ease that it is happening to others. I am just glad it's out right now, wondering what my fertility will be like since we are planning to try for #3. Thanks to all for sharing your experiences! Good luck!

I'm glad I found women who have had the same experience I'm having right now. I had my Mirena taken out 6/24 and the morning of 6/27 I got out of bed and had to run to the bathroom. I was gushing blood which went everywhere, the carpet, the bathroom floor. I grab a towel so that my husband could move the bathroom capet out and I was soaking through the towel. I havent had much cramping but first thing in the morning I rush to the bathroom to sit on the toliet and blood just gushes out. It's scary to me because this has never happened to be before. I took the IUD so my hormones could balance out before we try to have a baby this winter. I'm just scared that the next few periods will start the same way. So frustrating, I'm never going to use the Mirena again.

I can not believe that doctors do not warn about this. I had a Mirena for only 3 weeks - and the side effects completely freaked me out. Hair loss, headaches, complete mood and personality changes, constipation, acid reflux, etc. I was so stressed and just wanted it out - out - OUT of me, I had to fight to not pull it out myself. My Dr couldn't get me in for 2 days so I went to a Sexual Health clinic. When I complained to my Dr she basically acted like I was making up these symptoms and tried REALLY hard to convince me to leave it in, telling me it would level out. I said if my body is reacting this way that is enough for me to know I need it out. I also said that I thought the Mirena gave a very low dose of hormones, but that obviously is not true considering I have been on the Pill and Depo with none of these side effects. But she fought like crazy to leave it in! I couldn't believe it. My BF said she probably gets paid by the makers of Mirena for every patient she can convince to get it or keep it in. Now I have it out and am bleeding just like all you other ladies describe with huge clots etc. After only having it in for THREE weeks. I understand that this may not happen to everyone. But it clearly happens to some, and that means Drs should inform their patients about it before it's put in, and also when it is taken out. There is no way in hell that I would every recommend this to anyone. It should be taken off the market.

And to the poor girl who was in the ER getting transfusions - you should seriously consider suing!

Firstly, I'd like to THANK each and every one of you ladies who took the time to post your experiences. I feel for each and every one, as I too am now going through this. I had Mirena inserted in on 6/20/08 and removed on 7/21/09. I complained on migraines, had MRIs and put on Topamax for migraines. Drs told me that the hormones are very low and I shouldn't worry about it. So it was left in. Though I loved my periods were very low flow like 2 days only need pantyliner no tampons, I had little cramping. Which was one of my main reasons for going on as I always suffered with severe cramping 3-4 times a day needing heating pads and I'd cry in pain sometimes. I'm 45 and am done with kids. I'm blessed with a 15 yr old though did want another prior to Mirena but for 3 years no success even without protection. But didn't want to chance becoming pregnant at 45 either so chose it as highly recommended by Doc. She said weight gain would not be affected.

So currently last 2 months the cramping started up again, tho periods were low and short. Started using heating pads again . Headaches have gotten worse over last 6 months. Have used ice packs many days and nights a week over my eyes, lights bothered me and need to sit in dark at night. Finally got appointment for my yearly with OB she set up Pelvic Ultrasound - shows I have cyst on left ovary (tho very common could disapper) but that Mirena was a little low (which could cause the cramping). I was told to go right up to the doctor and she stated best to remove it since too low. She suggested that I should consider having procedure called NovaSure to help in heavy bleeding and will minimize cramping. I stated I've never had heavy bleeding even before Mirena. But I'll think for the cramping issue reason. She prescribed a progestin only birth control pill Micronor (Julivette is the generic name I got) to start same day, until I decide next what to do. Either reinsert Mirena or stay on BC pills or choose another form. My husband says NO to any more drugs and he's going to plan for Vesectomy.

I had my short period 2 days prior to Mirena removal on Tues. 7/21. I started to bleed lightly on Tues, Wed more heavy then Thursday the rush came in. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, now today Tuesday its the flowing rapids with clots. I've been in the house as can't go anywhere because as soon as I get up from sitting position. I get another clot, get to the bathroom and mostly manage to drop there. I'm out of work Friday, Monday and today. I've called the Dr. office (she's on Vacation) yesterday, Nurse states if bleeding through pad/tampon every hour then maybe should go to ER, get blood work. I've asked to come there she stated they can't do anything as the ER could have OB on call come in and maybe may do emergency D & C. I decided to give it yesterday and track all that happened, timings, # of clots, pad changes, and how much on pad. Don't mean to be gross, but this hopefully will help others too. In 24 hours timings, 15 pads - about 75% full, with 64 clots counted. Not including what I couldn't count or feel. I've actually started to catch a few clots in a cup (for testing) in case I go to the ER or DR today (waiting for a call).

I'm at the point where I may now look into a product suit lawyer. Mirena needs to be taken off the shelf and Drs. need to better consult their patients about Mirena. When I mentioned to my doc several months ago about what I found on Mirena's affect on migraine headaches on internet, she stated not to read the internet as only the bad stuff gets reported. There's 1000's of happy customers without problems. Yea right, wait till they get Mirena removed!!!!

Thanks to all that have helped me as when I found this site and felt so much more relieved knowing that what's happening to me and this heaving bleeding with clots is "common". That I am NOT the only one.

I will be back on this site with update and also if I do a product suit I would need you ladies to join in, the more we have the better.

I can sympathize with everyone. I won't repeat what all of you have said, but I have the same heavy bleeding with very large clots. Can anyone tell me how long it took them to get pregnant after removal and/ or how long after the bleeding stopped that you were able to get pregnant again?

Also I feel weak, tired, and the acne is horrible.......going on 13 days after removal

I am also glad I found this site. I had my Mirena out two days ago after almost 2 years of using it. While I initally loved the perk of being "period free", it started to weigh on me that perhaps it was unnatural not to cycle like that, so I had it taken out (also had dizziness/bloating/weight gain issues as so many of you have mentioned). Now I have started bleeding profusely and passing very large clots (including one that was palm-sized). I called my doctor and he said that it is "normal for me, though not everyone experiences that after removal". I don't know what to make of that. Obviously it is not that uncommon if all of you are experiencing the same thing. I'd like to think this is my body's way of expelling all the "stuff" that it should have been voiding for the past 2 years, but wasn't as a result of the Mirena. Even with the bleeding/clotting, I can say that I am feeling 100% better having it out of me. I seem to think more clearly, the bloating is gone, and I feel like I've lost 5 lbs already. There definitely needs to be more warnings and patient education prior to using this product. I wish now that I would have never done this to my body.

I had the Mirena inserted on 7/5/09 and after all the same symptoms as everyone else, depression, anxiety, no sex drive, weight gain, hair loss. i had it removed on fri 8/2/09 not even a month later. Now that it all makes sense, I am also very frustrated. I was uninformed about the side effects, and am upset with myself that I trusted my midwifes advice about getting it, I wish I would have done more research besides just looking at the pamphlet. I am now on my period 2 days later and am relieved to know that he HEAVY bleeding has happened to everyone. Although I am scared to go to sleep tonight, because i am worried about the clots and possible pool of blood I may wake up in. I am going to pass this thread on to every girl I know and also inform my friend who wants hers out, on what to expect. I am curious when the bleeding will subside, if anyone can answer? Its Sunday and I will be on the phone with my doctor first thing in the am!

I had the same problem, bleeding through a tampon AND pad within 30 min. Horrible and can not leave the hosue so I went back to the doctor and she put me back on birth control to stop the bleeding. Its day 7 of solid blood clots and we are trying to conceive but when? I want this to stop and the birth control isn't even helping. Can anyone tell me when they stoped bleeding and how soon they were able to conceive?

Hey Ladies. What a relief to know the blood clots are normal. I am not looking forward to the next few days though. I had Merina removed on 8/19 and starting taking the pill on the same day. I started my period on 8/27 Thursday in the morning and was actually happy to have a period after not having one for over 2 1/2 years (had Merina put in in 9/06) Friday was okay but today Saturday is very heavy with a lot of clots. I have never in my life had clots like this. Days 2 and 3 were always heavy for me I hope this will all turn out well. Hang in there girls. At least we are Merina free now!

I had the Mirena inserted due to heavy periods in June 09. My body expelled it in early August (more painful than labor). I have had the HEAVY bleeding and huge clots ever since. Last week I was admitted into the hospital for a blood transfusion and Premarin treatment. It stopped for a couple of days and my hemoglobin got back to 8.9 after 2 units of blood. One week later I am bleeding like crazy again just as bad with the clots. Now my doctor is saying a hysterectomy is the only option. This has altered my life to no end. My teenager is fed up with me not feeling up to going anywhere or not wanting to because I bleed through everything. Anyone know of another option, please post. I am having anemia symptoms again and I do not want to have to continue to get blood transfusions. I am only 36 and would like to avoid the hysterectomy at all cost. Please help.

I am going through the a similar situation. I had my daughter 12-07; I had gotten the "paragard" (something similar to mirena- without the hormones) in Feburary 2008. From the day I had my daughter till approximately 6-09 I was bleeding extremely heavily. I would go through a pad every 20 minutes, if I was lucky some days I could go every 45 minutes. I was also having pains that to me felt worse than then contractions when I gave birth. I knew something was wrong, but all my doctors kept telling me I was fine. I was supposed to let my body straighten itself out. But how long am I supposed to wait? I waited a year and a half. After many different medications to try to "straighten" my menstral cycle I told the doctors to cram it. I stopped taking the scripts, and began seeing another doctor. This is when I found out that my previous doctor had overlooked the cancer cells in my uterus. For a year and a half!! They did not realize that there could have been something else wrong besides my "menstral cycle". I then underwent the endoscopy procedure (11-08). It was very painful, but I got through. I then found out that my only way to releave some of the bleeding, and the pain, was to remove the paragard and get a historectomy. Now let me inform you, I am only 21 years old at the time. The doctors told me to come back in March of 2009 for a 6 month pap- smear. Unfortunately It is already september, and I have yet to make it in. I had medicaid, because I have three young children and can not afford insurance, and they shut my insurance off. They told me I was not in need of it. So as I have reapplied atleast 5 different times, and gotten no where, my health is slowly getting worse. My bleeding is regular (because I took some vitamins) but the bleeding is extremely bad!! To give an idea (and I do not mean to be disgusting) but when I am standing the blood is flowing out of my like I am urinating. I am going through a pad every 10-20 minutes. omg! I can't believe all I've read! We had 3 boys somewhat back to back and our 3rd was a bc baby so we decided the pill wasn't working for us so we chose the mirena. My dr also warned of no side affects and insisted that I'd be able to conceive almost immediately after having it removed. Well I got it in August of 2007 and all was well. I was living in the land of NO periods!! But the in January of 09 I had been waking up with morning sickness, severe fatigue, sore breasts, every preg symptom there is. My dr did nothing because he insisted that I could NOT be pregnant. Well a few weeks went by and I woke up one morning in Feb with severe abdominal pains and after 18 months of no bleeding went to bathroom and passed huge clot and lots of blood. I bled for a couple of days. My dr again said it couldn't have beena miscarriage because i couldn't have gotten pregnant with the mirena. I feel like I know my body better than he does and I was sure that's what it was. I decided to leave it in and tried to convince myself that he was right. 7 months later and no more bleeding I got all those symptoms again. My GP was convinced that I was pregnant but that it was too soon for HCGs to show up. (With one of my pregnancies my HCGs didn't show up till I was 6 weeks!!) That was on thursday, I called them back onMonday because on Sunday morning I woke up with same results as before, lots of pain, large clot, lots of blood. My GP was convinced that I had had a miscarriage and insisted that I see my OB immediately. I called and made an appt and bc there was no hcg level I felt like my dr blew me off. Even tho I had told him that I read ON THE MIRENA SITE that sometimes what happens is the egg fertillizes (baby) but themirena has thinned the uterine lining out so much that it has nothing to attach to and causes your body to "spontaneously abort" the baby very early on! He said there was no way to prove that that had or had not happened. I was very disappointed in the visit. He also proceeded to tellme that it would be at least 3 or 4 months before I could try to conceive again bc the lining was so thin that I could miscarry. He told me when he put it in that I could conceive immediately????? Regardless I got it OUT and now 2 weeks later every time I stand up I'm still having HUGE clots and massive bleeding. I've never been a pad wearer but tampons are a joke, they literally fall out after putting them in from the bleeding!!!! I'm soaking overnight pads! And not to mention the migraines I had and mood swings while it was in...I have felt better since getting it out but now am wondering if I'm going to bleed to death....????

Hi all

I thought that this was just me until I googled it and came across your comments. I had the mirena removed 1 week ago today my bleeding has since been awful. For 5 days i bled very heavily and now for the past 2 days I havent bled in the day time but at night time i again bleed heavily. I'm hoping to try for my 3rd child soon but this is killing the excitement. Due to other treatment that i have had i have been unable to try until now and now that it is safe i can do it!! :(

I also had my Mirena removed due to horrible side effects. I only had it in for 4 weeks and now 2 weeks later I am having ridiculously heavy bleeding. I have gone through a super tampon every hour on the hour for the past 2 days. I can't even sleep for more than a few hours at a time because of the mess that I wake up in. I have NEVER experienced bleeding like this, even after having both of my daughters. Can anyone tell me when their bleeding stopped and when I need to call the doctor?

I had my Mirena in for 5 years with no issues and no period. I had it removed 9/10/09. I had a blood test on 10/27 and no HCG levels detected and my period started the next day. I had the same heavy period as everyone else with crazy clots. On day 13 I called my doctor who put me on Provera to stop the heavy bleed. It tapered down and I had 1 day without a period at all and the next day it was back (this is an expected result of the Provera tapering off). Now I'm on day 10 of my new cycle. Its been 27 days of bleeding with only 1 day as a break.
I'm waiting for my doctor to call back since the holidays are coming and I'll be stuck with this for another week if they decide it won't end on its own. I don't know if the Provera was a mistake or not since my period came back exactly the same as before I was put on it.

However, the bright note is that the clotting tapered off in the past week and I get much much smaller clots - nothing to even worry about. Those huge clots were freaking me out.

The rule for when the blood loss is too fast is if you go through a maxi pad or tampon every hour. Then you are supposed to go to the emergency room. I was going through a super tampon every 2 hours and that wasn't quite bad enough to go to the ER. My doctor called in a bloodwork slip for me in case I was feeling like I'd lost too much blood so I could just go right in and get screened to make sure my blood loss wasn't too high.

Again - anyone want to post a follow up on when their bleeding stopped and when things were normal? I'm still waiting here.

I've felt fine though, eating plenty of red meat for the iron. I've had several leak-throughs from when I stand or sit and my pad couldn't not absorb the overflow fast enough. Makes me feel like I'm 13 again. And I've been really moody which I'm not sure if its the hormones or just being pissed at having my period for a month.

I've been tracking my temperature since the day my period started and for the first time in 2 weeks my temperature dropped from the 97.7-97.5 range to 97.0-96.8 - not sure if thats a good sign or if it means I'm now starting my 'real' period and will have another week of this. I'm hoping it means things are starting to work for me and this period will be over and we can try for that baby!

I'm also very disappointed because I'd been told I could get pregnant right away after having it out. I would have removed it months ago if I had known so we'd be ready to start trying now. Instead I'm stuck waiting this out, and then have to do the normal patient waiting since it can take several months of actively trying! So upset that I wasn't warned about this!

I had my Mirena removed over a month ago, after a year and a half. It was such a nightmare! Bad abdominal pains, went to the ER just to be told there was nothing they could find to be wrong. I started a period the day after I had it removed, lasting a full 4 days, I ovulated on time, and started my period again on a 30 day cycle. Although I hadn't had a period in well over a year, it felt as though something was wrong. I actually posted on a forum if it was possible to ovulate twice before my period came. My period lasted for 12 hours before it stopped. And for the five days I should have had a period, I had nothing, except for random "gushing" of blood. I would be standing up, at work, or at the most inopportune times, and it would feel like I had just peed myself, only to find out that I had a river of blood running down my leg. I don't recommend this birth control to anyone. Out of everything I have heard about it, and experienced, I have only had one person tell me they loved it.
