My mother and I have both been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroid...

Posted at 3:55 PM on Jun 24, 2008 by stefjudkel, #31724
My mother and I have both been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and we both take levothyroxine. We both experience extreme pain and she has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I have not been diagnosed with fibromyalgia but I experience the pain body also. Another thing. I have been losing my hair. No reason, it's falling out from the root and I have some serious thinning. Memory...what memory. I can't remember anything. Has anyone received advise from a MD? Thanks

This is more common than you think with T4 only medication. Go to this web site and read everything.

It says more than I could begin telling you.

I also had thyroid cancer and an RAI. Mine was in 2002. My mouth and eyes were so dry. My dentist (not my endo, ENT, or GP) prescribed 5mg of Salagen (there is also a generic that works) and it did wonders as long as I DID NOT take it on an empty stomach. However, about 1.5 years ago I stumbled upon a web site and met people that changed my life.

I found a holistic doctor that ignored the dreaded TSH test, dosed by symptoms and switched me to Armour. Yes, I am aware that endo, etc hate Armour and won't touch it, but they are largely educated by Big Pharma. Anyway, I still had all the dryness from the RAI that was driving me crazy. One person recommended to me that I supplement with Iodoral . Iodoral is an inorganic iodine. The two best web sites to read are:
http://www.naturalthyroidchoices.com/
http://www.breastcancerchoices.org/iodine.html

My holistic doctor ran an iodine loading test, and I was iodine deficient. So I began taking 50mg of Iodoral. The dryness has gotten remarkably better. The only time I take the Salagen now is before bed. I also find that using the Biotene products (toothpaste and mouthwash) help a lot.

There's a GOOD reason why you have the problems you mentioned: you are still hypo and will ALWAYS be on Levoxyl, which is simply T4. T4 is simply a storage hormone. The body is NOT meant to live on a storage hormone alone! Your thyroid makes T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin! I was once on Levoxyl after being on the other name brand for years. I eventually found out about desiccated thyroid, with the brand name of Armour, and when I got on it, I felt FAR better than Levoxyl. It gives you all the above, NOT just T4. This site helped me immensely and I recommend it to you: www.stopthethyroidmadness.com

Hello, my sister has been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Syndrome also. Her hair has fallen out quite noticeably and she has been on medicine for about 6 months but the bald spots have not begun to fill in yet. Has there been any product you may have tried for this? Thank you.

Hello, my sister also has Hashimoto's and has been on medicine since January. However, nothing is helping her re-grow the large bald spots on her head. Have you tried anything that may also help her in regards to her hair? Thank you.
