I, too, have been a victim of Lipitor. I sent the form that you referred in 4-08, asking to ban this dangerous drug. I received a form letter and never heard from the FDA since then.
Unfortunately, don't think the FDA is going to do anything. . . . VERY SAD !
I think it`s a good idea to report side effects to FDA.
I live in Sweden and the patients have just been allowed to report to our own "FDA".
That`s a step in the right direction but not enough.
We don´t have any sites like www.medications. That is equally important.
When it comes to the cholesterol issue I fid it really sad that people all over the world are completely brain washed by the pharmaceutical companies and the doctors.
Switching from one statin to another is no garantee that you will live longer and without side effects.
The best thing you can do is to educate yourself - read books and visit webb sites.
Here are some:
www.ravnskov.nu
www.thincs.org
www.spacedoc.net
The Great Cholesterol Myth
(Antony Colpo)
Book with the same title Malcolm Kendrick)
The Cholesterol Myths (Uffe Ravnskov)
Overdosed America (John Abramson)
The truth about the drug companies
(Marica Angell)
When you have informed yourself it will be easier to answer the question - does high cholesterol really have anything to do with heart disease?
I have nothing to do with health care or pharmaceutical companies.
I saw the suffering in 3 people close to me and that made me do my own "research".
I was very surprised at what I found. You will be - too.
Good luck!
Thanks for the tip on submitting a MedWatch report to the FDA! I'm not too sure it will do anything but worth a shot. Better than feeling helpless in our "war" against satins...
