I also received a kenalog injection from a dermatologist for rashes that wouldn't go away. He told me ONLY that it would probably mess up my menstrual cycle. I thought "yeah sure that sounds great" I just wanted relief from all the itching. The rash did go away but i started to notice a dent where they gave me the injection. It has since gotten bigger and I am scared and wondering what is going on with me. My doctor never told me of atrophy or even that it was a possibility. I consulted with another doctor who told me he is not sure how this couldn't happened and that they probly injected in the wrong site. i now know after coming to this site that i am not alone and it is the kenalog that has caused me grief. Doctors need to be responsible in letting patients know every detail about the drug they are using on us. I was reassured by him that my only side affect would be irregular periods. Hopefully one day mine will go away but until the people need to be educated on certain steroids.

We as patients have to be responsible to KNOW and educate ourselves on what all our medications are and the side effects. Physicians have contract and are mandated to see on average 60--yes sixty patients a day--thats approv7 minutes for each of us--and as long as we wait in the office--we all can see why some patients fall thru the cracks. Advie from a health professional--take someone with you to each and every appointment to help you rememebr what to ask. Make a specific list of uestions concerns. Statigically locate ur chair in front of the door so the doctor can't egt out or to the door knob until YOU are done with him. Yes--it will make them angry--but if they can make us wait and wait to see them for hours--then charge hundreds of dollars to spend 5-6 minute with them---than we --as patients have the RIGHT to not be rushed and to spend as much time getting the answers we want. IF the KENALOG injection is to be gievn and ur asked where u want it--GET IT IN UR BUTT!! make sure they use the longest needle possible and massage the injection site for a good while as this disperses the medciacation and lowers the chance of getting an "indentation"--KENALOG is a fat necrosizing medication:ie: it "eats up fat" so my question is--why not use it to get rid of our belly fat or any fat?? haha Just kidding on that. But doctors and patients are equally responsible--but thats not excuse for poor communication on the physicians part. If all patients were proactive and educated about stuff--than the posts for these side effects may not be so GRAND--everyone has a reaction to it---and all drugs have potential side effects--EVERY DRUG DOES. We must read and educate ourselves--thats why I suggest taking sumone with you to help you at the doctors office to rememeber everything. make a list of questions concerns and ASK ALL OF THEM!!! Don't let the doctor dictate how long he spends with you--YOU are the paying consumer--and when physicians charge so freakin much to see you--we have the ethical and moral right to spend as much time needed to satisfy ourselves. Now about ur periods it can take many many months for ur cycles to get normal---as long as a year in some cases. Hang in there and best of luck to you

I had a Kenalog injection for poison oak in Sept. and also experienced atrophy. It has been an ongoing battle. The "divet" has grown in size and has gotten very deep causing entrapment of my sciatic nerve. I now face surgery to relase the nerve and try to close the gap caused by the atrophy. This has been a major nightmare and is not over yet!
