I have had the Mirena for 1 1/2 yrs now. Within the past six months I have started to develop acne, all the while my period was starting to fade less and less every month. Now, the acne is severe and the periods are completely gone. I'm just wondering if this is all related. I have scheduled a appointment with a skin clinic, and also called my gyno. I am waiting on a reply from the nurse at the gynos office to see if I need to go on to the skin clinic, or if I just need to get this removed. I have never had more then a pimple or two on my face at one time. Now, I have them completely covering my hair line, almost like a rash.

Hey gurl,
You arn't alone. My problems started after about 6mths. Only I didn't realize it again. I had mine in Oct 05 & had my last & only period in Dec 05. I am suffering with numerous side effects & am scheduled for removal this month. I didn't realize until I found this site exactly what my issues were from. I do get the acne but It's no like normal acne either. In my case I'd rather deal with a period then this junk.
FYI I have a post on here as well. Hoping you get it all worked out!

Oh man! I'm experiencing the exact same situation! I'm 25 and have had my Mirena for 2 years (almost to the date), I loved it until, but for about the last 6 months I have had persistent acne breakouts that will NOT go away no matter what I do.

I thought perhaps I was developing a sensitivity to something I was eating (sugar and dairy were my two main guesses), but even after eliminating those from my diet and treating my face with expensive products (Murad), I keep experiencing the extreme letdown of waking up with more and more pimples on my (once-completely-clear) face, neck, and back. I read that hormonally-caused acne appears on the lower part of the face, the jawline, and the neck . . . and this is definitely the case for me. How about you?

Let us know what the dermatologist says! I would be interested to hear if there is indeed a recommended treatment for (suspected) hormon-induced acne. Thanks! And good luck.

Also, I am considering getting my Mirena removed and have the copper ParaGard IUD inserted instead; I have just had way too many complications from hormonal BC -- both the Mirena and a few different brands of the pill before the IUD. What do you ladies think/know about the ParaGard??

Acne is listed as a side-effect of using Mirena, however, they do not list it "realistically". It causes MAJOR acne problems. I had the Mirena for just under 3 weeks and after the first week had broken out all over my face. (I only get a few during my period, but I was breaking out in spots I've never broken out in)
I demanded the removal of the nasty device; it's just not worth it, no matter how much the DRs stand behind it. I no longer trust my GYN office (after 18 years) and now am dealing with a nasty cyst & abnormally thickened uterus.
