In response to Wewe's post, I've been wondering the same thing. Since taking my daughter off Singular almost 2 months ago, I'm seeing a different almost typical kid. Four years ago about 2 months after starting Singular my daughter was diagnosed with anxiety. As her condition got worse she was diagnosed with depression. We started to see OCD and tics so they were added as a diagnosis It was determined that it was related to strep infections so she was diagnosed with PANDAS. She was started on Zoloft and klonidine. The Zoloft made her worse. Her fears of hurting herself got so intrusive she was hospitalized. Her cholesterol was high too. The Zoloft was discontinued and Prozac was started. She's had therapy all 4 years. She also neede physical therapy due to muscle and joint pain. Now she's doing better, off Singular. Does she really have PANDAS, OCD? I don't know. She's still on Prozac, we just did a slight decrease this week. Is this medication the trigger for underlying conditions. Learned behaviors can be unlearned, but are there lasting physical effects? If a gene has been turned on, can it be turned off? I wish we knew the answers to help all of our kids.

My eight year old daughter was showing almost identical symptoms.Moody, crying and the OCD thing was driving me crazy....We took her off a week ago and the difference is already UNBELIEVABLE. I am sure this drug works for many people but I would not give it to anyone I know.....Especially a child....She can now sleep peacfully with no nightmares and crazy thought at bed time...

I'm glad your daughter is doing better. Mine continues to improve as well. It's just so sad that so many people have been hurt by this drug.

My daughter also showed severe OCD symptoms while on this medication. So much so that we decided to wait a year before sending her to Kindergarten. She was 4 years old at the time and had not been on Singulair long. She had all the other side-effects as well: vivid nightmares, stomach pains. She would tell me that her brain was bad and she was trying to get her good brain back. She became obsessed with things being dirty touching her and washing her hands. It was heart-wrenching. I was about to call the ped. for a psych referral when I went to the computer and typed in "OCD Singulair" in the search function....my heart broke when I saw all the hits it generated. I sat at the computer and read all the complaints and couldn't believe any doctor would prescribe this stuff to a child. Anyways, I took her off immediately, within days there was marked improvement. She still showed some OCD signs, but they weren't devestating her...and her happy attitude was back. It has been 6 months off Singulair and I feel like we have our daughter back. She still does some OCD kind of behavior, but not anything like before. I agree with your thought about unlearning the behavior. That seems to be what she is doing. While she was on Singular, she would want to take a shower after eating a popsicle, because it was sticky. And she would have a complete breakdown if I told her no. Now, she runs around all sticky and dirty and I couldn't be happier. I, too, am scared that there are long-term permanent effects from this medication. What is even more disturbing is that they are still prescribing it to children. I warn everyone I know about this stuff. By the way, she was on no other medications-this is the only one she has ever taken-for seasonal allergies/night coughing. Incidently, we haven't had one episode since taking her off the medication 6 months ago.
