If your dr. says that it's not a reaction to the levaquin, find a new doctor. Listen to your intuition. Stop taking the pills right away and ask for a new medication. Also, visit the following websites: fluoroquinolones.org, fqvictims.org, fqresearch.org, antibiotics.org, drugvictims.org. These are all excellent websites to give you an idea of what is happening and what you can expect. Good luck. I just have to say that things do get better eventually so try not to lose hope.
So this pain in my joints will go away? It is horrible..
I posted some time back and asked the same question as you. I took a 7 day dose of 500mg for a sinus infection and was sorry I did. I finished it on 4/5/08 and I am still fighting some symtoms of anxiety, insomnia, mucsle pain, and an overall tendonitis condition in my shoulders and legs. The first month was very bad with anxiety, insomnia, and a numbness/dead feeling in most of my body but specifically my right side in my arm and leg. Almost felt like I had a stroke. Even a short walk would cause my leg have a dead/pain feelin in my upper thigh and just holding the phone to ear with my right arm for a minute or two would cause it to burn and have pain for hours. Outside of the anxiety most of my pain feels like mucsle and tendon and not so much my joints. I am now just past 3 months and feel much better but far from 100%. I feel pretty lucky since it appears people fight this for years and if I continue to improve at this pace I should be ok in a few months. I have started to jog and work out again again pretty vigoriusly without my muscles yelling at me but I do have to not overdo it or I pay the price for a few days. All I can say is just take it easy and listen to your body. Try an get some light exercise, eat good, drink lots of water, and take some vitimins like C, Mag/Calcium combo and some omega 3 fish oil. Not sure these helped but they were part of my routine and I do feel better so I think it does go away. I think each of us will react and recover differently so hang in there. I will never, under any circumstances, take this drug again!
I wish I could pass along wonderful information but I believe the answer to your question is that it varies for every individual. I have been reading the comments here (and elsewhere) for quite some time. I was floxed about 20 months ago. There are as many different responses as people who wrote them. Initially I had a horrible reaction lasting about 3 months. Then there was a period of about 3 months where I improved greatly and I thought it was past. Then my bicep tendon snapped and it has been one cycle after another ever since. Be careful, remain positive, and be patient (if that's possible!). Most importantly, stay away from this stuff and tell everyone you can to do the same.
