Hi,
I read your posting and thought deja vu. I am a 51-year old female who was recently diagnosed with osteopenia. Other than some gastritis that I take Nexium for, I have been healthy my entire life. No hospitalizations except for childbirth. Not overweight, no diabetes, no heart disease, do not smoke, alcohol intake is very minimal. My doctor recommended that I take Fosamax for the osteopenia. I should have known better, as I am very sensitive to medications, but decided that the benefits outweighed the risk of osteoporosis later on and possible fractures which I am at high risk for due to my very petite frame. At any rate, I took the first dose of the medication yesterday (Sunday) and awoke at 4:00 am with excrutiating bone pain in my neck, clavicle and entire rib cage. It hurt to breathe. I took some tylenol for the pain which enabled me to go back to sleep, but still woke up with the same bone pain. I WILL NOT take Fosamax again. My plan is to continue with my 3 mile walks 3-4x a week, and make sure that my calcium and Vit D intake are adequate.
I only took Fosamax for about 8 days and came down with all side effects..Didn't realize my aching ribs were part of it until I read your message...I had had troulbe wit actanel and boniva befolre this...I now have found a better way..It's at http://saveourbones.com....I haven't taken more of that...but I am still trying to get rid of the rash on my feet...It doesn't hurt or itch....but who needs maroon spots...I'm glad I found you posting....It helped....
