My doctor took me off metopolol (genericToprol), and my last dosage was a week ago. I suffered weight gain, tiredness, and muscle fatigue during my 18 months on the drug. I have 2 questions - how long will the drug remain in my system, and has anyone who experienced weight gain while on Toprol or the generic, lost any weight after stopping it? Thanks, Tony

Everyone one is different as far as how long it takes to get completely out of your system. It took a few months for me and I too gained 20 pounds in the 2 years I was on it. IT DOES come off. I am back to my pre-Toprol/Metoprolol weight. Hang in there and be patient. This is a potent drug!

I went off Toprol xl 100mg a few weeks ago and am hoping the numbness and cold sensitivity goes away soon. I am on 20 mg Benicar now.

It took almost (4) months to get completely out of my system (I had been on it for 5 years) . I ended up having to go back on a low dose 25mg until I am weaned over to Diovan HCT.

I lost 22 pounds when I went of the 75 mg Toprol - with NO EFFORT and changing nothing else. It has stayed off even being back on the low dose.

Hang in there - drink lots of water, get rest, and take good care of yourself!

I have been on the Generic Toprol for abut 5 years and also have put on a lot of weight. I have never been this big in my life. My friend John was telling me I should get off the drug. I have been feeling worse and seems like I was deteriorating every year. I am short and all this weight is making walking hard for me. I am always out of breath. I am also on Lexapro which I know puts on weight also. I feel like just stopping all meds!

My husband has been on Metropolol for 5-7 years and we just found out this week that it takes away your short term memory. Thank you so much Drug Companies for taking away all those years of my husbands life. He had turned into a Zombie on this medication. He would forget what I said to him, as I was saying it. How he held down a job is still a mystery to me. I heard on television that they were giving this drug to people who had just been through a traumatic event to wipe out their short term memory so that they could forget what happened to them. This drug will work perfectly for them. Meanwhile, I would like to have my fun, alert husband back that has been missing the entire time he has taken this nasty drug. I just heard that the drug company is recalling this drug. They should go to prison for putting us through the past 7 years. Now I find that my 42 yr. old Son has also been on it and having huge problems with his short term memory. I'm madder than hell about it. Shirley Hill in Arlington, Washington
