I don't know if this helps at all since I never had a period with this IUD, but when I did have spotting it seemed like it was always after some sort of activity whether it was exercising, sex, gardening, or even walking more than normal because I went shopping on a Saturday. Since you tend to have heavy periods anyway this may be related. It's just a guess. My periods were always very light before the IUD. I don't know know--this whole thing is mystery, but I would say that "floods" are not OK and definitely having to tolerate them for 6 months while you wait for it start working wouldn't seem like fun either. Hope you get some resolution.
I did not experience floods but I can tell you that my periods on Mirena were a lot different than prior to that. Before Mirena, the first day or two of my period were the heaviest, tapering off until it was over. On Mirena, it would do just the opposite....spot, spot, spot...then increase until it was very heavy and a day after that, it would just abruptly stop. Very strange. I had so many bad side effects that I had to have it removed after just 5 months and have not had a period since (had it removed in Feb). My recent blood work showed that I am now post-menopausal at the age of 43 so that is that. I agree with the previous poster...I would not think that such floods are ok. Take care.
My periods Where SOAKERS... And The IUD made it worse.. I waited the "6months" like the doc said well B/S at 8 months I had it out.. Yes my periods where heavy but NOTHING like that.. I'm on YAZ and it's more under control and feeling much better... Your choice but something isn't right... Don't wait...
What is YAZ?
