I had my mirena fitted in 2000 when I was 40 years old. I have suffered with psoriasis since that time and only recently realized that maybe this could be linked to the hormone. I have spoken to my GP who insists that there could be no link and that it is purely co-incidental, however he can offer no other advise as to the cause of the psoriasis, so how does he know. I have tried all sorts of remedies to alleviate the psoriasis with no luck. I am now practically convinced that the mirena is the cause and am considering having it removed asap. I have also experienced palpitations for the last two years and have had all the tests and have been told I am fine. I also suffer from IBS. Has anyone else experienced similar?

Thank you for your post. It is interesting to know that other people have noticed a link between the mirena and psoriasis. I did have my mirena removed in mid August. I must say I have only noticed a slight improvement in my psoriasis, however there is definitely some improvement. For the last two years I had been experiencing heart palpitations, for which there was no apparent reason. Since the mirena removal I have not had one. Please keep me posted if you decide to have the mirena removed, as to the effect on your psoriasis. I must also add that painful periods are back with a vengeance and I do sometimes regret having it removed.

Hi there,
So I got mine in May 08 and all was well for the first few months except no one told me that i would have the messy brownish period for 6 straight weeks....nice. Anyway, I am pretty healthy, really no issues, and at about the 5 month mark, it all started happening. Although I never put it all together until this week after seeing this site. Anyway, I have the palpitations and joint pain in my toes, and sciatica pain out of nowhere, and for a girl who has never had acne, cannot believe the cystic acne around the mouth and chin...and then what I thought was acne under my nose I have realized is a patch of psoriasis. I don't even get psoriasis...maybe like 15 years ago I used to get a few small patches on the back of my scalp, and now really out of nowhere, psoriasis. This is getting ridiculous. I also get the eyes going out focus, ususally when I get in the car to drive, in which case I notice I use my peripheral vision to see where I am going. Yes, I know, crazy! Anyway, I hate the acne part, but the palpitations are downright scary...although I had an EKG and did the 24 EKG Holter Monitor and it definitely showed some irregular patterns. So what I really want to know is for all those that have gotten it removed, have all of the symptoms gone away? Especially the palpitations? I am seeing a few posts that say yes, but I really want to make sure! And for all of you who did take it out, what do you use for birth control now? From a birth control standpoint, it really is just great so far.... but definitely not worth the side effects for me :(
