I had Mirena inserted after the birth of my 2nd daughter - Novemb...

I had Mirena inserted after the birth of my 2nd daughter - November 07. Things were going ok (at least that was what I thought) until about two months ago. I really did not think about the Mirena much. Maybe that was because my sex drive has been soooo gone that I have only used the benefit of the Mirena about 3 times. The problems I guess really started when my period disappeared. That happened 3 months after I got in inserted. I thought that was going to be great because my periods usually last 7 days from start to fully finished. But with this thing, I did not bleed but I definitely was still having a period. Bach aches, mood swings, headaches, bloating, etc. I started to think something was really wrong when I got a headache that lasted about a week, and I don't normally get headaches that last longer than a few hours. I could not figure out what was wrong with me. I even went to the emergency room to have them tell me that there was nothing wrong and it was probably just stress. I started to think that maybe it is the Mirena. I started doing searches on the adverse side effects of the Mirena and thank God I found you guys. I have most of the symptoms described here and other Mirena side effect pages. I will be having this awful thing removed in about two weeks. I don't know what my husband and I are going to do about birth control. We both do not want anymore kids but I am only 28 and do not want to have my tubes tied. Headaches Joint Pains Low Back Pain Mood Swings No Sex Drive Massive weight Gain (I have not lost any of my baby weight plus i put on a few more pounds) Breasts Double in Size Fatigue Dizziness Depression (low self-esteem) My feet have even grown (probably because of the weight gain)

I have had the exact same side effects. I had my Mirena placed in April after my second baby, we don't want any more kids either but hated to do the permanent thing (tubes tied and Vasectomy).. I started having the really bad joint pain right away but then about one month ago I had a horrible headache that hasn't gone away, the doctor sent me for CT Scan and blood work.. all came back okay (thank god). I also am a contact lens wearer and haven't been able to wear those recently because I was getting blurred vision. It was so bad yesterday that I was afraid to drive home from work. I had the IUD removed immediately yesterday afternoon. I have only had it 4 mos. I am still having the headaches and joint aches, but I am hoping and praying it goes away in a few days.

Wow. You sound so familiar. I am a contact wearer as well. I took mine out last week and have not put them back in yet. I actually just spoke to my doc and he is cool with me taking the IUD out. We are discussing other low hormone birth control options. I have a few girlfriends that use the NUVA ring and have not had any side effects. He has also told me to do some research on YAZ. I am not too crazy about those birth control options but I have to do something. My husband does not want to get a Vasectomy. I pray that it works out for you as well as me and everyone else suffering from this flaw in women's health/medicine.

I recently had the Merina put in March or this year (08)and removed it today. Am trying to do some research on this and saw your posting. The reasoning for removing it was severe joint and muscle pain, swollen feet, weight gain, and tiredness. I am 24 years old, never been pregnant, I work all the time, and go to school part-time( note: this was my activity before IUD).Actually I had never be on birth control before and this was my first attempt of doing so and thought the IUD would be the best thing for me. (Hey don't have to worry about it for 5 years, Hun.)Lot better said than done... I have conclude "The only thing I changed in my life style was the IUD!!!". This has to be the culprit.

Have you had any other responses from anyone else? I'm furious that doctors think this is a good form of Birth control, People need to know the truth about what they are getting in to.
