My son has been taking Singular as well as Advair and Zyrtec and Nasonix for the past 6 months. He is doing so well. He has not had to go to emergency, he has not been sick, and he has not had mood swings. If you look at the prescription information that comes with Singular, you can see what the side effects can be. My recommendation is to take your child off of them if they have a side effect. I contacted my Dr. and Merck is studying only 1 case with a child that had side effects, but they did not say if this child was on other Psych medicine at the same time. The 2 psych meds that have shown a bad interaction with Singular are Phenobarbital and Rifanpin (spelling may be wrong). With all the posts I have read, very few people indicate if they are taking other medications at the same time as Singular. My suggestion is that you consult your Dr. and then send your case to Merck for more studies. If all you are doing is posting on the web, you are not solving this issue with the makers of the medication.

I am truly happy for your son that he may be the 1 of the few people that have not had side effects. If you read back through the numerous posts back to March since I have been following the posts here you will see 1) numerous people have made reports to their dr's, 2)to the FDA, 3)emailed Dr Sara Sellers at FDA and 4)reported to Merck. Alot of the complaints I have been seeing from people is the way Merck has notified the Dr's of the many additional side effects that have been added on. Alot of Dr's are not aware and to view their Mercks commericial advertising for singulair for allergy and asthma they don't seem to mention these new side effects as well. I for one did post my son was on Nasonex as well which can have similiar side effects. I stopped both singulair and nasonex. Our 3 1/2 years of hell has stopped, 1 1/2 years of sinusitis and 2 surgerys later. The nasonex was started only because of the sinusitis and the nasonex made his days bearable. His sinuses drained for first time in 1 year only after stopping singulair. That infection went right into his tonsils and gave him tonsilitis for 3 months. 1 month of augmentin didnt get rid of the infection. He had his tonsils removed July 1 st and for first time in 4 years is not on allergy meds every day. It was the singulair hiding (turns off the symptons)the infection in his sinus. Dr's never picked up on it and he was on constant antiboiotics and is now immune to some antibiotics. So how well informed is your Dr? There have been some Dr's which have changed their views after getting in contact with Dr Sara Sellers at FDA from what I have read. Im curious who your Dr's contact is.

I am an adult that became very sick from taking Singulair. I was in the hospital 8 days after starting this medicine. I was also taking Flonase at the time, but had taken it in the past with no problems. My heart rate was 166 bpm when I went to the ER. You are one of the few "lucky" ones that have not had a terrible "side effect" from this poison! I was very aware of the side effects, as I read everything first. I thought that if I had a bad reaction, that I would just stop taking it, only it wasn't that easy for me. I ended up in the hospital for 3 days instead...afraid I might die and leave my 2 small children without a mother. I am one that has filed a complaint with the FDA. We are all well aware NOW, but it seems that the Dr.'s are the ones that need to catch up. We are not just "posting on the web", we are trying to make people aware that this is a wide spread problem, and we ARE letting the FDA, our Dr.'s, Merck, etc know as well. I'm sure that people that read your post will be happy that your son did not have the same terrible reaction to this drug that other's have, but we owe it to the other parents to put the word out there, since most have no idea that it is the Singulair causing such terrible aggression, mood swings, and thoughts/dreams in their own children. You don't normally expect a "side effect" to be so totally life changing! You expect a side effect to be a head ache, or something more mild.

Lots of people are reporting to the FDA and Merck directly. My son was not on any other drugs at the time. Since taking him off Singulair he has done a complete turnaround. This can be a frightening drug for children who cannot communicate exactly how they feel. See my other posts under matthewct1
