I'm on week 2 of a 3 week doxycycline cycle for Lyme as well and I agree with the probiotic recommendation but not the aleve recommendation. At the start, I lost my apetite quickly (lost 7 pounds already), the nausea was pretty bad and I had terrible diarrhea until I started eating Activia, the yogurt with the probiotics. I've been eating 3 a day since then. Yesterday I was traveling on business and didn't get my 3 Activias and this morning I had terrible nausea and vomiting so I've been eating yogurt all day.
One day I had a really bad headache so I took some advil. What a mistake! I had incredibly bad abdominal pain and cramping and just generally felt awful. Advil and Aleve are both non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and they are both hard on the stomach.
My guess is that doxy kills off all the good bacteria in your stomach and intestines and if you don't replace it, you will have more nausea and other gastrointestinal issues.
9 1/2 more days to go. It's better than having Lyme disease but Doxycycline really sucks.
I understand how you feel, my doc put me on Doxycyline for an unkown stomache pain, and coupled it with Metronidazole and the first couple of days I was so sick to my stomache I didn't know what to do, I felt nauseated and sick, I couldn't cool down and now after a week every morning I wake up it feels like I woke up with a boulder on my tonsles, it hurts so bad to swallow, and I feel like I sucked on a penny all day. My tounge, gums, and cheeks are so raw and I didn't do anything different. I took a sip of my coffee and wanted to cry...
