I did not have mine inserted postpartum as you did but I did have headaches (all the time!), dizziness (almost always), facial and arm numbness/tingling as well as anxiety the first time in my life. I believe that it IS related to the Mirena, specifically the type of progestin that it uses. I do not feel that it stays locally as the manufacturer claims. Too many of us have had issues and there are studies that show a very high concentration of this hormone in your blood with use. If your blood work was normal and you didn't have these issues prior to Mirena, I would bet that this is the reason. Mine are gone now that I've been without the Mirena for 5 months. Good luck to you and take care of yourself.
I have had the exact same symtoms, had blood work, CT Scan everything. Even went to the eye doctor. I had my IUD removed last week and still have headaches,,, but hopefully they will go away soon. I also had really bad joint aches with this IUD.
Hi i can kind of relate to your story. I had my son in november and throughout the whole pregnancy I was extremely sick. I was on medications to stop vomiting from begining to end. After I had my son I would get pain in my leg, head aches and blurry vision. I also would get numbness on my lips and on one leg. It was so strange and talked to my Ob/Gyn and other docter and they all said I was fine. Now this was before I went on mirena so your doctor could actually be right. I thought what was happening to me was because of the medication I was on but I have been fine now without it. Over time I got more rest as my son got older and know he is 8 months and I feel fine, no other symptoms. So I am telling you there is hope...
I had the Mirena inplanted in Feb of 2008 and i recently have been having similar problems to yours. I have been experiencing a lump on the left side of my throat and neck...I recently went to an ENT dr to have it checked and was advised everything is normal. I though it may have been my thryoid. It feels awkawrd when i swallow. I have also been uncontrollably sad and anxious at times. I have no sex drive and i believe this is all from the mirena. I made an appointment today to have it removed. Good Luck to you!
Oh My God, I am not alone!!! I have had the Mirena since July 2007. 3 weeks ago, I noticed a lump on the left side of my thyroid. Of course all of my labs were normal except.....thyroid antibodies. My immune system is attacking my thyroid. The lump is becoming larger and I had to have a fine needle biopsy done. i am still awaiting the results. I have absolutely no personal or family history of any type of thyroid disorder. I also had an ultrasound that showed a "cold nodule" which is the lump that I am feeling. After doing some research and much reading re: Mirena and side effects that others have had. I am conviced my thyroid has everything to do with Mirena. I am having it removed in 4 days. I called my OB who placed it told her all the symptoms I have been having, foggines, fatigue, insomnia, moodiness, short temper and so on. Initially, I coudn't get in for 2 months, after hearing about all of my symptoms she worked me in to her schedule. what does she know that I don't???? I urge you to see an endocrinologist re; your lump, ask for a PTO to be done to check for thyroid antibodies, and request an ultrasound. If the 1st one you see refuses, see someone else.
