I am a 45 year old black female. After the death of my father, I started experiencing blood pressure problems and headaches. I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea 2 years ago. Not having bought a CPAP yet has contributed to a lot of the blood pressure and headache problems. But, my GP put me on Toprol in June '08. I am having difficulty sleeping.Every time I eat, I have severe gas and my chest is hurting off and on. There has got to be a better solution. I started exercising and using Isagenix (******). It is simply wonderful - I have lost weight and toxins. When I go to my doctor on tomorrow, I am going to ask him if I can get off of Toprol. I do not like the way this medication makes me feel.

Hi, I'm a 38 year old African-American female also on Toprol XL (100 mg). I have experienced the exact same symptoms as you with the heartburn/indigestion problems starting a little over a month ago. I have been on Toprol XL for about 6 months and although it has decreased my blood pressure some, it has not netted the results my cardiologist has hoped for. I currently use Clonidine in the evening to assist me in getting a decent night's sleep. I have been trying to break free from Clonidine (decreased medication from 3 tablets a day to 2) but when I try to go a day without taking any I have nightmares - severe nightmares, that wake me out of my sleep shaking and sweating. I agree with you, there has got to be a better way. What is Isagenix? I would be interesed in getting additional information on this drug as it does NOT involve weight gain which is a side effect of every medication I have been on in the last two years. In addition to blood pressure problems I have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and a heart murmur. I take one medication to lower my b/p and then my ankles swell. I take a diuretic to rid my body of excess fluid and my pulse rate raises (along with heart palpitations). I can't win for losing. Hyperthyroidism caused me to lose 70 pounds but the medication my Endocronologist prescribed to slow down the my thyroid gland production has caused me to gain 40 of that back. I'm miserable, FAT and very, very unhappy. I want relief. Now! Good luck to you. If your Dr. takes you off Toprol XL and prescribes something else can you please come back and share that info? I would love to talk to my Dr. about trying something else. I'm at my wits end. Thanks for your story and for allowing me to vent.

I've taken Toprol XL for years without drastic side effects although definitely some. The lightheaded feeling has worsened, and I've also woke in the night with extreme dizziness (room spinning) several times. After reading the information on this site, I now recognize quite a few other effects. I want to be taken off this medication, but I want to know what others have been prescribed after Toprol XL. Thanks for all this new information.
