On lipitor for 1 1/2 years.... starting taking yoga a month ago. Had ache in knee and leg which then went to toe on other leg. Thought it was overstretching from yoga. Pain moved to hips and lower back. All very painful but worst was yet to come. Pain moved to neck and shoulders. Could not move head. Excruciating SOBBING pain. I was in so much pain for weekend. Everyone wanted me to go to emergency room but I wanted to stick it out til Monday. PS... went on web. Saw this is lipitor side effect. never would have expected that after 1 1/2 yrs on a 10 mg dose. Went to pain management doctor ... got Soma (muscle relaxant), an oral steroid and Percoset. Relief was almost instant. Called my cardiologist. He says it is the Lipitor. No more statins for me. And back to yoga.

It is amazing you were able to take Lipitor so long. Most people get the side effects much sooner. There are natural products for the side effects and to low cholesterol.

Some people get side effects right away and even on a low dose.

For others it takes longer.

Doctors as well as patients often dismiss the possibility of side effects and particularly when it comes to medications which are said to "prolong life".

The cholesterol issue is a very controversial one and there are doctors/scientists who are of a different opinion.

They say that cholesterol has nothing to do with heart problems.

Most of the medicine studies are done - or paid for - by the pharmaceutical companies themselves!

I think people should remember what happened with the estrogen medication which was supposed to cure everything not just hot flushes but also prevent heartproblems osteoporosis and Alzheimer!

After a few years it turned out to be good only for the hot flushes and to top it all there was an increased risk for breast cancer!

I have read a lot of books, many of them on the cholesterol issue, but to get a good grip of what is going on I would suggest - Overdosed America by John Abramson.

If you want to know more about it turn to the Internet for information.

After thought . . . Be careful the dangerous drugs your drs. gave you for your side effects. As usually, drs. don't know about the side effects of the RXs they so easily prescribe.

Hi, thanks for posting your info. Do you mind telling me the name of the oral steroid you have been precribed please? I have been off statins since Dec 07 and I am still quite debilitated, thogh a million times better than 6 months ago. I can actually walk, eat and think again on looking back I almost croaked from this medicine. I would suggest you go to the website coq10.co.nz and get the information regarding bioavailability of coq10. I believe that 300 mgs of hydrosoluable coq10 works better than 1000 mgs of other makes. I take coq10 100mg 3 times daily along with oxycontin a prescribed narcotic for my pain. I would like to get off the oxycontin hence my interst in the name of your steroid to take to my doctor. For yourself you need to research the coq10 & the tishcon variety, as most supplements are far from equal. This product reduced my pain by 20 - 30 % and raised my energy levels by about the same within 3 - 4 weeks. Lets know the steriod and your progress. Best to you from New Zealand.
