I just wanted to reply and say that I have had the mirena since February, and I love it! Yes, there are some side effects, namely some weight gain and acne. But I have gladly traded those for the decrease in periods, and reduction in the severity of my cramps. Also, my sex drive is much higher than it was on the pill.

Yes, there are a lot of horror stories, and it's good to pay attention to them. But also remember that most of the people who have had bad experiences are the ones driven to ask questions and post about it online. Most people who have had no problem at all are simply happy with the mirena, assume that's normal, and move on.

There are certainly some reasons you might not want the mirena, and certainly for some people it's been a bad experience, but don't dismiss it completely. Some of us are delighted with the mirena!
