I am so relieved to read your story. I was prescribed Doxy some years ago as a propphylactic for an infection. After about the 4th day of taking it, I developed traveling cold flashes. I had no idea what the symptoms were about. Then it developed into full blown anxiety and inability to sleep. I called the doctor next morning and were told these were not classic Doxy symptoms but if I was uncomfortable, to stop taking it. I actually had a full-blown panic-attack after I was off of the med for a few days. No one would believe it was attributable to Doxy especially since I was off of it for a few days. But my instinct tells me it probably was. Prior to this experience, I had never experienced panic attack before. I thought I was going to die. My heart raced to 100/min. and had terrifying cold-flashes engulfing my whold body, it felt like I was going through hyperthermia. Throughout all that no health-care practitioner would admit any of this could be attributed to Doxycycline. I feel my instincts are validated after reading your posting as well as some others. There seems to be a significant number of people that suffered from anxiety -related symptoms fromthis drug.
I've recently took one-dose of 200 mg of Doxy for prophylactic for lyme disease. I felt comfortable because it was just one dose and I made it through okay. But now I know, I should definitely avoid this particular antibiotic if I needed to be on it for a full course of a week or more.
