I was prescribed Adderall 30mg tablets 3X's daily. Right from the beginning I found that the Adderall caused a very very annoying agitation to my throat. The only way I know how to describe the sensation is that it feels almost like I have phlemgm stuck in my throat,it causes me to almost continuously cough and gag so that I can clear my throat, but, nothing ever comes up!?? I'm wondering, could the Adderall be causing minor swelling or inflammation causing my throat to feel this way. If so, does anyone know of anything that would counteract this reaction?? I would hate to have to discontinue this medication as it helps me so much as far as staying focused. If anyone has any idea as to what I could do to make this bad reaction go away or to at least make it subside somewhat, I would be so grateful!!!!

Open your mouth and pull down your tongue -if you still have your tonsils- . Do you see any white looking things stuck on them? If so gently press the sides of your tonsils and push it out. They are called tonsil stones and can cause the sensation of a 'foreign body object' lodged in your throat that you can't cough up. Look them up.

PS: I take Adderall XR 40mg/day and this happens to me sometimes, though not as frequently when I drink plenty of water.

I've been taking Adderall XR 20mg for about 3 months now. I really like the focus it gives me, but the down side is the frequent, annoying dry cough and what feels exactly like what you describe as "tonsil stones" - the sensation of a foreign body object lodged in in my throat. I even had a CAT scan of my neck because it was very painful for a few days. Now it's better, but still there. Can I really just "push it out" as you describe? Can you provide any more details?
Are you still having this problem are does your solution fix this?

Thanks for the advice about the water. Always a good reminder.
