My daughter who just turn 7 has been on and off Zyrtec for the past 6 months. This last time it finally clicked... She was on it for about 3-4 weeks and I notice her mood changed and she was now very angry at anything and started hitting her sibblings and throwing things at me out of anger. She also was waking up at night either with bad dreams, or couldn't sleep. My husband and I realized that this all started about the time we put her back on Zyrtec. Two days ago, I took her off it and the next day she was an "Angel" compared to before. WOW what a difference. I did notice today (day two) she was sneezing more and didn't feel as well physically. So we are not out woods yet. She also has been taking Singular for several years and I have been reading more about that medicine as well. I am not sure if needs to be taken off that yet, and will do an experiment. The timing isn't the best since school starts in just two weeks, but it might be worth it to have a happy child again. On a side note, last year in school, they diagnosed her as having social anxiety. She is "extremely" shy and closed off in school. It would take her hours to do her homework which should have taken about 30 min. I am curious if stopping singular would help clear her head and make her less anxious. (She was on Zyrtec as well during that time). This would be such an answer to prayer if it works. My two sons are so much happier than my daughter and I always wondered why. This may be the answer!

Several years ago my daughter took singulair - with similar problems. She was six and started talking about how no one in the family liked her, etc. It was so out of character. I took her off it after doing some research and she has been a happy carefree child ever since. It is worth a try to get your daughter back. We have the same problems finding an allergy medicine that works - we eventually went to allergy shots.

My daughter was on Singulair for three years and she exhibited many of the same side effects. She committed suicide in 2003 before the link to behavior and mood disturbances to Singulair was discovered. Go to the Singulair site and read what has been posted by people who are/were on this deadly medication. If I were you I would get my daughter off of Singulair as SOON AS POSSIBLE! I know how chaotic the start of the school year can be, but it is not worth gambling with her life. It sometimes takes a few months to get the medication out of your system if you have been on it for several years. So it may take some time, but I can almost guarantee that you will get back your daughter! My daughter was also on Advair at the same time. This is a deadly cocktail that should not be prescribed to children.

My son was about 5 years old when we realized that he was having outburst & always whiny. We took him off the Singular for 2 weeks and he was great & pleasant. Then a few week later we put him back on to see if it was the meds & sure enough outburst & whining started all over again. I will not let him back on Singular ever....

I just read your email. My 8 year old son was in the E.R. and spent 2 days of the pediatric IUC center here at El Paso last weekend. . He also suffers asthma, and he has been in Zyrtec, Singular for over 4 years. The reason why he ended up in the hospital is because his pediatrician who I fired right after this incident, gave him a shot of Decadron. Decadron is a drug primarily used for chemotherapy patients, but also now used for patients with asthma. Please don't let your doctor give this medicine, he had convulsions and panic attacks. I am sending an email to all my friends about these terrible drugs that FDA is allowing doctors to use. Thanks god he is Ok but now I am doing all my research about all the medications he is been taking and I came out with this site about Zyrtec and Singulair side effects. In the past, he has shown a lot of the aggressive behavior and mood swings that a lot of the people are experiencing . Please keep in touch and let me know if you find any other medications that do not present such a horrible side effects for asthma. Thank you.
