Yasmin is a steroid so when coming off it you can suffer all the same symptoms as someone stopping a steroid drug... and by the way, when people are taken off steroids it's done in a controlled way - they cut down on them very slowly by reducing the dosage. It's a real shock to the body to just stop a steroid. This could explain why a lot of us feel so terrible when we stop taking it. I know I had a real increase in severity of symptoms followed by months and months of exhaustion and fatigue.

This is comforting to know as I have been experiencing horrible side effects...snapping at my boyfriend for no reason, crying, I am worried that I am cracking up and afraid to go to the Doctor in case he thinks I am nuts. I was worried that coming off it, this is actually the REAL me and I am mad! I am scared that I have no control over myself and may do something silly one day, like suicidal thoughts. I really hope it gets better as I have never felt like this before.

It took me a long time to feel 'normal' after coming off Yasmin so try not to worry you're not going mad... I know easy said - but I've been there too. My panic/anxiety got much worse, I was incredibly emotional and scared about what would happen to me if I stayed like that. In time you will slowly start to feel more in control - just give it time and try and believe things will resolve. Take care.

hi, how long did it take you to get to "normal"? and how long were you on the pill for? I took yasmin for 6 months and my anxiety sky rocketed, i really could not handle it. i'm off it now for about one and a half months so I'd thought things would have improved by now by I still get horrible feelings/thoughts, extremely emotional and confused, keep questioning myself about things i was pretty sure about (ie relationship, etc). i think this is even more so just before my period.
will it ever get better? i feel i'm going mad

I was on Yasmin for 12 months, the anxiety and panic crept up on me from about month 4 until I realised it was Yasmin around the 12 month mark. I only put two and two together by reading about other people's experiences on this website! I have been off Yasmin since July 2005... I know that sounds a very long time ago but slowly but surely my body has healed from the most horrific side effects - terrible anxiety, agoraphobia, pounding heart, emotional, headaches etc. It does take time and everyone will heal at a different rate as your hormones are fighting to balance themselves again as well as getting used to coming off a powerful steroid. It's worth checking whether you have an adrenal weakness (I do, and am currently being treated for it). Search adrenal fatigue on the web and you'll find alot of really helpful stuff about it.
