I've been on Zoloft for about 4 years now (100mg) a day and I really want to stop taking it. At the time I was put on it I was just getting myself out of a really bad situation and I needed to be put on it for severe anxiety and panic attacks. I'm in a totally different situation now and am doing fine, I don't want to rely on medication anymore to make me feel "ok". I actually kind of feel like it's counteracting in my system. The only thing really holding me back is the fear of crazy side effects after you stop taking it. I heard you can even have a heart attack =/ Has anyone gone through this or going through it right now?

My daughter was on Zoloft (75mg) for 11 months until she decided that she needed to get off this medication. The doctor gave her a wean off schedule which took approximately 3 weeks. The only side effect that she complained about only two times was a nauseated feeling. Other than that she has been off Zoloft for 2 weeks now and is doing great. In the 11 months on this medication she did gain 25 lbs. This was more depressing to her than her original reason for going on the meds. She asked the doctor how long it would take to start to lose some of the excess weight and she was informed that it would take up to 3 months. Apparently the drug is still within your system but inactive. Since being off for 2 weeks she has noticed that her appetite has decreased and she has lost 4 pounds. Please consult your doctor for a wean off schedule and good luck to you................
