I'm so happy I found your posts - I thought it was my imagination. I had Mirena inserted in January 2008 and went through three months of constant spotting, now no periods at all. My skin broke out within days of having it inserted but my doctor and dermatologist keep telling me it will ease off, and to hold on a little bit longer. Additionally, I've had no sex drive, fatigue, aching joints and lower back pain, which I've only just realized could be linked to the Mirena by hearing your stories. I've decided to have it taken out - it just doesn't seem to be worth all the problems its causing.
I had Mirena inserted April 2008 and just had it removed 5 days ago. I got this weird blistering rash on my lips. Very painful, sometimes itchy and peeling making it hard to eat. Also some swelling of my lips. Has anyone had this happen? My symptoms actually worsened the next day after removal but by day 4, my lips had almost completely healed. Then I woke up this a.m. with some more swelling. Could this be that the hormones are still at war in my body? After being almost better yesterday, I just expected things to get progressively better and felt discouraged this a.m. with the swelling setback. I have been going to a rheumatologist and dermatologist since my first symptoms occured (about 3 wks after insertion) and bloodwork has come back fine.
I have been experiencing weird sypmtoms since my insertion of the Mirena. I thought I should search the net and see if anyone out is suffering like me. So glad that I have found you because I have the exact symptoms like yours.Foggy (mindless), severe acne on my face and back(painful), dizziness, weight gain(one size up),back pain and shoulder pain, allergic rashes all over my body for no reason, get nervous easily, poor vision, and moody etc. I will call my doctor next week to have it remove. My body is rejecting it. Oh and you mention Pcos, YEAH! I think I have that, it's due to the imbalance of hormone. I notice I have been having more hair growth in other parts of my body. All these symptoms arise shortly my insertion back in April 2008.
why didn't u like Yaz? I'm thinking of getting the mirena out and trying that!
I am so relieved to hear that others are having these side effects. I had my mirena inserted in Sept of 07, and suffered a painful insertion, moderate cramping for three weeks and then spottign for nearly six months. I thought that would be the worst of it. Starting in November I developed these painful, itchy rashes and bumps around my ears, but January it had spread to bumps on one side of my face. Many trips to the dermatologist followed with varying diagnoses of serborrheah, nickel allergy, adult acne. Treatments with topical steroid did little, and the rashes have worsened. In early July I suddenly was covered in a red itchy bumpy rash ALL over my face and neck., I barely left the house for three weeks, SOme areas got infected and reselbled cystic acne while other were patches of red itchy bumps. No help from the derm. Rash cleared up to some extend and then yesterday, Aug 13, the itchy bumpy rash returned all over my face. Have looked on internet that it may be a reaction to the hormone in the mirena, levenorgestrel.
Hello--I wanted to let you all know something I learned the other day...I went to an allergist re: this lip rash I have been having and he completely validated my decision to get the IUD out. He said they have seen numerous cases of bizarre reactions to IUDs in their large practice. I was discouraged that I am still not completely 100% but he likened this to poison ivy: just because you are no longer walking through the ivy doesn't mean you will be completely well. I will take some time. This is the first time a physician has even considered the link I have made and I felt like there was some hope!
well I went to the DR last night and she convinced me to keep the darn thing. A few reasons--1--she said that most women have the side effects within the firs 3 months--not after. 2--my weight gain is NOT fromthe Mirena--many women try to blame it but it is not from that. (Hmmm--I guess me and all the other women who have goen up a dress size for NO APPARENT REASON eat while they are sleeping or something). Basically said I just have to watch my weight, eat right and exercise--yeah-whatever--like I dont know that.
Anyway--I have been under a lot of stress lately and when I did some research that also has the exact same side effects--weight gain, exhaustion, hair loss, fogginess, lack of sex drive, etc.. so I have a follow up in a month to see if it is the Mirena and then I willahe it removed at that time or jstu stress. The other problem is that I suffer with PCOS which is a hard way to go with ANYTHING it seems. Good luck to everyone out there.
I have all the same problems and more:migraines, weight gain,PCOS,rash, irritability,NO sex drive, depression, anxiety, fatigue, joint and back pain,oh and one that is really weird but a feeling like the fluttering you feel when your pregger, the list goes on.I got the Mirena is Oct 06 and almost immediately started having problems.I have tried 3 different times to get it removed and the docs just say it has nothing to do with it but I seriously doubt it!My best friend had one and had it removed due to all her symptoms and now she has been diagnosed with PCOS??I dont know what to do know cause I have no insurance and the more I read the more scared I get!!I want the stupid thing out and trust me if I could reach the darn thing I would yank it out myself!!! At least I don't feel like I am going insane anymore..Yay me..=/ yeah right
