The only thing that I can say was there from the beginning and did not subside was the bloating. I didn't have intense cramping right away....what I had was more of a feeling of pressure in my lower belly. I seemed to put on about 5 lbs in that first week or two, all there in my belly. I just looked and felt bloated. It took about 2 1/2-3 months for the acne to start up and it did not go away until I had it removed. It was on my face and my back. I hope that you will have good luck with your Mirena. Some women do fine! The good thing is that now you are aware of more of the side effects than you were probably advised by your Dr and definitely more than you can gather from reading the pamphlet that they give you. If you start experiencing symptoms that you didn't have pre-Mirena, there is probably a connection. Take care.
Thank you so much! I guess just no matter what, it is different for everyone... oh well. That is what happens when we try to interfere with nature I guess. I will see what happens and keep posting here. Oh, and as far as my doctor goes, she actually went over EVERYTHING with me. She discussed all that has been posted here pretty much. She really is a great OBGYN! Thanks again for replying to me, it was really helpful. Have a great day!
My effects happened in about a week. The was extreme fatigue. The muscle weakness came soon after - probably about nine days. The cramping and general pain was constant but mine perforated my uterus so that one is different. Spotting started in about four days with heavy bleeding in a week that didn't stop for about a month. I think you will know right away.
Iif this one has too many effects but you tolerated the procedure I wonder if paraguard may be a better option for you?
Thanks for the reply! I looked up paraguards and their side effects. NOTHING like what people say about the Mirena (except for expulsion or perforation (sp?). The only down side apparently is heavy, frequent bleeding. No matter who you are, it happens to everyone who has it. Well, that is my conclusion. No one had posted that they didn't have that problem from what I could find. So I hope Mirena works out for me. I'd rather have no period rather than heavy ones. We will see and I will definitely keep coming back and updating.
Three months ago I have had my Mirena put in. I do notice my mood swing has gone down a bit, and I no longer have menstruation. However, I have a bad acne all over my face and my back. I have tried every cleaning face wash and acne cream to lotion but nothing seems to be helping. It has been bothering me a lot because they are very painful acne, and now I am wondering should I have Mirena remove. The acne started shortly after 2 weeks from insertion. Is anyone out there has any suggestion remedy for the acne? I also notice I get dizziness thru out the day.
I had dizziness, too....almost the whole time I had it. Very disturbing. Always felt like I was drugged. As for the acne, I never - EVER - had that before Mirena. And what I ended up with was big, cystic, painful pimples. Nothing but nothing budged it. My other half even went so far as to buy me a whole set of ProActiv because he thought that might work....didn't do a thing. Hormonal acne doesn't respond to traditional remedies, I don't think. Once the Mirena was out, what I had on my face healed and, knock on wood, it hasn't come back.
Has anybody NOT gotten acne due to the Mirena? Now I am a little worried...
I've had my Mirena for nine months now and I have not had bad acne. I always had occasional breakouts related to my cycle, so anything I have experienced in the past nine months has been similar to before I had Mirena. I really am happy with this form of birth control and it has helped eliminate all of the menstral problems (very heavy bleeding) that I had prior to it. In fact, I have had less side effects with Mirena than when I was on the pill. Good luck!
The side effects show up within DAYS of insertion.
The acne and weight gain showed up almost immediately. I'm a bellydancer and had to do a bellygram a few days after insertion.
The costume I had worn less than 2 weeks before (which was still packed and ready to go) fit tight - from my belt, which I could no longer wear as low as I usually do to my bra, which barely kept the ladies contained. OMG!!
The leg swelling was immediate, too, although the GYN was very dismissive of the symptom. (to me, swelling of the extremities is a sign you do NOT ignore)
The acne seems almost overnight. Bang. Right there. And the weight gain consists of stomach pooching, too.
The scarier side effects such as fogginess, depression and "odd thoughts" (I don't like to use "suicidal") took a little longer.
Again, I had the Mirena for less than 3 weeks. The rest of the side effects I experienced are posted with my name.
And, since removal, now I'm fighing an apparent hormone imbalance. This device causes your estrogen to skyrocket, causing (me) unusually thickened endo lining issues. I went from normal to 10mm within a month's time to now 13mm, two months+ from insertion date, and literally 6+ weeks from removal.
Note: at 15mm, the "C" word will come into play.
How's THAT for a side effect that they don't discuss with you?
Yeah, that was never discussed with me... I am so sorry that all of that happened to you. I have had the Mirena for 2 weeks and nothing has happened. The insertion was the best that anyone could ask for. I literally didn't know she put it in-wasn't watching. had my eyes closed b/c I was scared that it was gonna be painful.) No acne, no cramps (well, I cramped for a total of 10 minutes after it was inserted and that' s it) no dizziness, no fog, no nothing. Every body is different. I am half expecting to see these side effects everyone has posted about soon though...
