I've been on Lamictal for about 5 months now. I recently have had some horrible side effects. I've had the acne, brain fogginess and weight gain all along. About a month ago I was hospitalized for having a blood phosphorus level of 0.6 which is dangerously low. The symptoms around that day were nausea, feeling like I couldn't breathe, hyperventilation, heart rate of 120-130, tingling sensations from my nose to my toes, diarrhea and almost blacking out. Of course, the ER doc thought I was having a panic attack and told me to breathe into a bag and try to breathe slowly. NOT from a panic attack. Granted, I was panicking because I was scared. Has anyone experienced this low phosphorus problem?? I will be coming off of Lamictal in the next week. Hasn't made my depression, panic attacks or sex drive any better. thanks.

Hello my wife is on Lamictal 300 and she started experiencing similar issues feeling like she could not breath and major chest pains. The doctors assumed it was a panic attache, but I was not convinced. She has reduced the Lamictal to 200. Her chest pains still seem to be there but the breathing issues have reduced dramatically. But her state of mind has suffered from reducing the Lamictal, she feels very irritable now. She also experienced a major Acne breakout after going to Lamictal 300. Lamictal is a fantastic medication if you can live with the side effects. We might go back to taking the 300 as the benefits seem to out rank the negatives.

I have a patient that I am following with low phosphorus on Lamictal. I can't say for sure it is the cause. Thanks for posting your message. I will post again if I can determine it is the cause. I would like to know if your phosphorus improved after stopping Lamictal.
