Just a word of advice...I would never take an antidepressant just because the current birth control is making you depressed. I don't think a doctor should ever suggest to stay on a birth control and take an antidepressant to cure the symptom that the BC is causing...I was on antidepressants for about a year, a lot of medication that my body was so dependant upon. If I missed a dose by a 15 minute time span I was throwing up or passing out from dizziness... I would especially advise against antidepressants if you have children to care for. Talk to your doctor or find another one. Don't cover up one problem with something more because your BC is causing the symptom. Have a better day!
I definitely second heath's opinion. An antidepressant should never, ever be a band-aid solution to cover up the problems caused by a hormone that is not right for your particular body chemistry. Nuvaring can cause severe depression even in women who are not prone to depression and have no history of it. Take it from me.
I have heard that Nuvaring is a big no no if you have ever had any kind of depression prior to using it too. I don't understand why any doctor would not ask if there is a history and then skip over it as a first choice.
Thanks to both of you. After a week of increased or additional side effects, I called my doctor and said I would not be taking the antidepressant and would be taking the ring out a week early. I decided that I did not want to put myself, my body and my family through all the side effects I was/am experiencing. And I don't think I will be going on anything else for awhile... back to condoms.
