You make a good point. It IS true that many people use Yasmin without serious side effects. HOWEVER, it is important for patients to be educated consumers and learn the symptoms of the serious side effects. Then they can be watchful and aware. Then they can seek appropriate medical care should they develop pain in their legs, shortness of breath, funny little bloody noses, pain in the chest on deep breathing, etc. These are all symptoms of blood clots. Approximately 4 out of 1000 women on BCPs will develop an episode of blood clotting per year of use. If a woman has a blood clotting disorder such as Factor V Leiden (present in approximately 5% of the population) then her risk rises to 30 out of 1000 per year. I think these are pretty high odds. You say ". . .you only have three months of your life to lose and so much to gain." I would beg to differ. My daughter DIED on day 18 of her third month on Yasmin. She was 18 years old. She also had been told that "you have to get used to Yasmin." If she, or I, or her father, or her friends, or her roommate would have fully understood the symptoms of blood clots in the lungs she could have received medical care to save her life. But everyone thought her shortness of breath was "anxiety." The fact that the side effects do not happen to everyone is of no comfort to me. I called the nurse on the day before she died to express concern about her shortness of breath. I was reassured that it could definitely just be anxiety. The next morning my daughter collapsed, turned blue, and died eight hours later in a hospital. Knowledge is power. I want to prevent any of you or your loved ones from suffering the same fate. Our family is in horrible pain and our dear daughter lost her life. I don't want the same to happen to you.
