Diagnosed with DVT in left leg on July 29, 2008. Began Lovenox injections twice daily on that date. Started on oral Coumadin 5 days later. INR bounces from 1.0 to 3.8 and back down to 1.4 over the past 3 weeks. Started at 5 mg daily, went to 1 mg. daily, to 2.5 and 1 mg every other day. Starting last Friday night urine was deep burgundy in color; called doctor Saturday morning. He said to hold up on Lovenox injections and don't take Coumadin that day. By Saturday afternoon I was in ER with kidney stone, my first ever. Discharged Sunday after apparently passing stone. INR upon discharge was 1.6. Today, after taking 2.5 mg. daily and back on Lovenox injections, my INR was down to 1.4. Urine is again very bloody this afternoon after having one strong pain hit kidney yesterday. My leg is still swollen; the DVT was pretty much in all of my major veins in left leg and groin. Really blessed to be here without having had PE. (Long story about being misdiagnosed here at local hospital and taking 7 hour car trip to major university hospital in Texas where I was diagnosed!) Would love to hear more about your experience with Coumadin. What about diet? Has anything been said about avoiding certain foods? What about activity? I'm uncertain about what things I should do and how much I should walk on my leg, etc. I was already using a wheelchair and cane because of major surgery for cancer in 1999.
