I have now tapered to 10mg prednisone every other day and will end 75mg Cytoxan Aug 19th. Just went to the Dr. and she said protein is back in urine (bad) but also rising in blood. (good) I can continue to taper prednisone but will have to have another 24 hr urine speciman to determine wether I have to go on cyclosporine. Was originally diagnosed with Minimal Change Disease, but now she thinks it could be another kidney disease. Has anyone had successful tapering with the addition of cyclosporine? Does the urine protein ever get higher? What about side effects of cyclosporine.

I have been diagnosed with minimal change disease and have been taking 60 mg of prednisone daily for 2 months. I still have two months to go before the doctor will taper off. I feel like I am jumping out of my skin all the time. I am so irritable my family can hardly stand being around me. Other side effects are muscle aches, cramps, excessive facial hair, and weight gain. This is a miserable feeling. Yet my blood work shows that prednisone is "fixing" my kidney problem, so I have no choice but to stay on the drug. Find a good doctor. I have one of the best. He is doing everything to help prevent thrush (swish and spit medication twice a day), to prevent infection (antibiotic 3 times a week), and has now made a referral to a rheumatologist due to bone density results. Good luck to everyone who is taking this powerful medication!
