Hi, I'd suggest that you visit:
There's a lot of great helpful helpful info on UC. Keeping a 12-year-old on corticosteroids is very risky, so, try your best to put the disease into remission naturally. Good luck!
I know how you feel. My son was diagnosed in February and was placed on prednisone also due to a flare.I have read so many horror stories about this disease. I worry every day about the disease and the side effects of the medications. I know how you feel...seeing one's child suffering is hell. Keep the faith ...we have to for out children. Please write back if you need to.

Sorry to hear your daughter is taking prednisone. It's hard enough for an adult to deal with the side effects. :(
Good evening,
I've been using remicade for 3 months now and have been through 4 infusions. My UC has gone into remission somewhat but Remicade doesn't seem to be the answer either. I too have tried all but one of the prescriptions you listed and nothing worked or provided as much relief as the Remicade has but now I suffer from the side effects of Remicade. I have severe body aches for about a week after and other flu-like symptoms. My infusions are 8 weeks apart and by week 4 I start feeling crappy again so all in all I only feel good for about 3 weeks of every 8. I'm sitting here in tears trying to decide whether I want to continue with this so called "treatment" which doesn't seem to be the answer either. I'm at a loss for words. I wish you and your daughter the best of luck.

I am so sorry for your daughter, I am 28 and i had some major breathing problems out of the blue one day and major sinus problems they put me on prednisone now I have been on 10 to 20 mg for 8 years, not to scare you but I cant get off this, I have gained 100 extra pounds my face is mooned face and I have developed tumors and everytime I go to taper down it gets bad, you cant just stop this med it can be fatal. But your daughter due to her illness may need this med. I wish there was and alternative. I have to homeschool my children due to this med. Because of my immune, again sorry and if you want email me at hacklera@windstream.net
Please do not settle for giving your daughter such a dangerous drug as Remicade until you research the mounting evidence and trials that are going on using long-term antibiotics to treat this disease. Even WebMD is now reporting that some in the medical community suspect that bacteria is the cause.
