I was prescribed 750 MG of Levaquin after a ER visit on Saturday, August 16th for a sinus infection. Both Saturday and Sunday I had diarrhea. I took the second pill on Sunday and I did not sleep the entire night. I was sweating so much. I felt out of sorts and scared in my own home. I started to turn on the lights. I even tried to sleep with my bedroom light on. It was an awful night to say the least, I won't go into all of the details. But I did start to question not only my physical health but mental. I knew I had been stressed out, but this never happened to me before. I was not able to work Monday. I took the third pill Monday not realizing this was all a reaction to the antibiotic. I was speaking to a close friend late Monday afternoon about my horrible night. I did not tell her what I was taking. She informed me that one time she was taking a antibiotic, Levaquin, and that she had a similar reaction and even hallucinated. I was relieved to know that I was not loosing my mind but it was the medication. I called my doctor's. office and they said stop taking it. They said they were aware that this had happened to some patients. Gee, thanks for telling me in advance. They suggested I take Benadryl to help me sleep. Needless to say, what a horrible experience I had. And this night was worse. I was sweating even more, could not sleep, tried to take a shower to cool off and then I started to hallucinate. I tried talking myself out of it, but the medicine was too strong. I called my God Mother and she talked me through it. Again, all the lights had to be on, I felt very anxious and scared. IT WAS AWFUL. If you have a sensitive system I would not take this! It is now August 21st and I still can not sleep. I am still out of sorts. I wish I knew in advance. All I know is I am telling everyone I know, DON'T TAKE LEVAQUIN!!!

Good grief! I am so sorry that happened to you. I started my Levaquin nightmare two plus years ago and still suffer daily joint and tendon pain throughout my body. Thank goodness I did not suffer the very frightening effects that you did...I had one horrid night (2 pills into it) that I at the time attributed to the fever I had...also there happened to be a bad thunder & lightening storm that night (I live in the Pacific Northwest so it's common) and I was terrified, but again at the time just thought I was reacting badly due to being so sick....keep yourself calm and know that you are not alone. There are thousands of us out there and unfortunately there are more each day....yeah, FAT lot of good the BIG BLACK BOX warning everyone is so excited about is doing huh? You keep on telling people and also educate yourself as much as you can about what else you might expect later on down the road. Stay strong and I pray for you and all of us!

this is all very true, i was prescribed levaquin 750 mg for phnemonia. i took it for the 1st time last night(august 25th 2008) i took it at 7pm went to sleep around 1030pm and awoke at 12am scared out of my mind, the sweating was so bad i had to towel off. i am a 35yd old man and i have never been so scared in my life. the nightmares were horriable! i managed to go back to sleep and awoke again at 3am because of the nightmres and i was sweating so much my bed was soaked. i got up and went into my bathroom and stared into the mirror, i really felt like i was insane. it is very hard to explain what i was feeling(i began to question myself---did i hurt my wife, did i hurt my children?) it was really strange, my mind was so confused that i thought i might have hurt my family. i didnt go into detail about last night with anyone today untill my wife asked me if i had taken my antibotic. i just said the side affects are pretty bad. i looked up "nightmares levaquin" on google and saw that many other people have had strange experiences with levaquin also. i told her, my mother, my father, and my brother about the sideaffects and this msg. board. we all agree---dont take levaquin! levaquin is very dangerous!!!! and no, my doctor didnt tell me about these possiable affects.
