I know how you feel. My son could have been ruined by Singulair. Be happy you made the connection. My son is a completely different child being off Singulair. :-)
Glad you figured out how to post, your story is my story,it took a good 3 months to get to what i consider normal, excited once again about life, hang in there it will get better, you are not alone and we will not stop till we are heard.
Make sure to do the most important thing and that is to report it to the FDA.When our child took his life, for days we wondered what possibly could have changed our Cody, not knowing we were feeding him poison. The drug reacts quickly and I know by reading the foreign studies that it does break the blood brain barrier. Somehow it alters the normal thought pattern and personality,.Our child never exihibited any mental health problems until given this drug. It was fast and furious, within days our prescious boy decided to leave this world to give up on life.Cody had a love of life and a sensible personality, the last days of his life he had none of that left to him.It was all negative and the mood swings ,anxiety, aggressive behavior were something that we never had dealt with before with Cody. This drug robs children of their minds!!!!!!!!At least you know now let everyone who will listen, know that this drug does not work for everyone.Alot of Doctors do not want to know the truth about this drug and I am curious to what the logic of that is.I for one believe, listening to the patient and maybe the process of eliminating some meds to see if the apparent symptoms resolve would be an educated approach. These drugs go unsuspect for too long because, Drs. do not report and are to quick to relate the side effects to some other illness.I do blame the lack of proper reporting on the doctors part to the longevity and over prescribing of this drug. The medical world is to busy overbooking appointments and that does not allow time for reports. Our doctor was totaly unaware of the newest side effects added early last year, those side effects alone would have been reason not to give the medicine to Cody.Who in there right mind gives a teen a pill for allergies that can cause depression and tremors. We would have had a choice, had they made the side effects of this drug public knowledge,or at least notify Doctors of the updates. When I read that doctors are still ilinformed about this drug I realize I need more people to raise awareness about these issues.Call the FDA and complain there is power in numbers.Make your doctor file a report it is an obligation to the patient safety in this country.Good Luck Kate Miller
I post under the name 58peppy. Although my daughter is much better, there are learned behaviors that we must deal with. I hope everything works out for your child. Sue
I am currently going around with Singulair for a second time. I was successful on getting my 7 yr old off of it. (Ex was not happy about it at all). My son was off of Singulair for one monthe until a cold / flu started going around. While he was in my care for the week (summer schedule) I found that treating a normal flu / cold with over the counter meds. worked fine. If you child is coughing - give cough medicine and cough drops. This did not seem like rocket science. After returning our son to his mother, his fever had broke three days earlier and he was bouncing around. I saw my son a couple of days later at soccer practice. He was coughing up hair balls, every 30 seconds he would have uncontrolled coughing fits. When I asked my son if he was taking any medicine he replied "no". The next day he was in the doctors office (without me being there) and what transpired is still unclear. But to my horror his mother was down at the pharmacy getting a new perscription of Singulair. (which happens to be a direct violation of the courts order that both adults need to make the decision on major medicine.) I must say the one month my sons was off Singular he was awesome, wanted to play, wanted to go swimming in the lake, looked forward to kids coming over and playing or going outside to play, didn't have dark circles under his eyes, had no nightmares and wanted to try new things, enjoyed sports for once and wanted to stay in scouts. I saw him a couple of days after being put back on Singular.
I find it hard to pay child support for a child I dont even know. He is a zombie again and his new thing now is he likes hitting and bouncing around like he has ADHD. By the way since the doctors visit he is now on four different meds. thanks to his mother. I had read before on this site where a parent was told by the Pediatrician that if this kept up that there son would need to see a shrink, (his pediatrician also mentioned that to me to my horror) ----- dont ever believe that. My next step is to see a asthma specialis Sept 23rd to get an alternative medication and not Pulmicort, it has the same bad side effects --- do the research.
I am sure when the first kitchen cutting knife was invented it didn't take long before the warnings of "can cut fingers off", the FDA should own up to what side effects are out there and protect our kids, and pediatricians should be held accountable for what they are making our kids take. I am surprised a doctor gets a visit from a pharmacy rep telling them this is the best since slice bread to learn down the road that wasn't entirely true. When I informed the pediatrician of side effects, I was told there was none, the next visit it seemed some one did there homework and they got him off. Most likely in fear of a malpractise suit.
I have just found this web site and am very thankful there are people out there who are expressing their opinions about Singular. My son, who is 16, has had the worst year of his life; sleep is always interrupted, stomach problems, eating disorders, tough time in school, attitude problems and now very severe anxiety. Yesterday, we went to see a pediatric physcologist and of course they want him on a antidepressent for the anxiety. I thought about this all night, and the only other thing that he now takes is Singular, of course his pediatrician says there are no side effects to this. I know my child and this person I am living with is not someone I recognize. I searched this drug and anxiety and came to this website which has given me hope and the nerve to follow my gut and ytake him off this drug immediately. Thanks to all of you for sharing and giving me hope that I can turn this around. Will keep you posted.
