I have a 17 and 9 year old and I'm 37. I figured this would work better for me than the pills. I had it "installed" in May...at least that's what it felt like!!! It was HORRIBLE for me to have it inserted. I swear they actually put it in my tonsils and not my uterus. I had severe cramping for a week and I almost went to the ER. After that, I have had an occasional quick cramp here and there and a day of what makes me think of "old period". Light enough for just a liner, not a pad. I have had NO side effects with the Mirena, THANK GOD! It was a great choice for me. Other than the horribly painful insertion, everything else has been great!
