sunnygirl, thank you for your sympathy about my daughter's death. My goal in posting here is to raise awareness about the risk for developing Deep Vein Thrombosis and/or Pulmonary Emboli while taking birth control pills. The pain you describe in your calves is a warning sign for DVT and should be checked out immediately with your doctor or at an ER if it persists. My daughter died four days after complaining of "shortness of breath" and a "funny little pain on deep breathing." She saw a doctor who dismissed the symptoms as "anxiety." If my daughter had been tested for blood clots that day she could have been saved. Instead she was sent home with instructions to relax. My suggestion is 1) if you develop symptoms of DVT or PE and are on BCP, INSIST on being tested for blood clots and 2) if anyone you know develops shortness of breath and faints, call an ambulance. If you THINK of calling 9-1-1 go ahead and complete the call. The life of someone you know may be in your hands some day. Better to err on the side of caution. Take care.
