I think some of the severe symptoms reported here are just that.....

I think some of the severe symptoms reported here are just that.. severe, and as advised on the drug information insert they can happen, and should be reported to your doctor. We are led to believe our doctors will stop the meds and try something else. If they are not willing to do that, or try to convince us it's all in our heads then... we should stop the meds ourselves and find another dr. These side effects are real, and scary. I've stopped cholesterol meds for that reason. I don't need a dr. to tell me to stop... I know my body, and how I feel and know when something isn't right. I've been on Lisinopril for two weeks now. I was initially on the diuretic Hydrochlorothiazide, but had so much arrhythmia that I thought my heart would jump out of my throat. The dr. discontinued that after less than a week, and put me on Lisinopril. I am a bit dizzy sometimes, and do have a mild cough, but I had the cough before the meds so I can't really blame it on that. However, for all those with the problem of coughing and headaches... I read at drugs.com that you should take this medication with a full glass of water, and drink lots of water throughout the day. This tip was not in the drug handout and I thought that odd. Something so easy, and yet left out. Luckily, I drink water at my desk all day at work. This weekend while home I didn't drink water and had a horrible headache the entire time. I never connected it until I read that you should drink lots of water. Back to work today and drinking water and my headache is gone. It's worth a try, it might help. My husband is on Lisinopril/HCTZ combo, has been for at least 3-4 years with no adverse side effects. We are all different, medication effects all of us in different ways. I hope I never experience the kinds of side effects I'm reading about here. If so, I'll be off the drug in short order. My dr. told me there are loads of other medications we can try. While there are side effects to everything we take, mild is ok but no one should put up with life altering and/or life threatening side effects like what I am reading here.

Don't believe you won't have the side effects you read here... you already are. Your husband may not be as sensitive to the medication, but I wouldn't be so sure on that either. We tend to brush off the little things. However, the mild cough you describe is an allergic reaction from Lisinopril and may very well get worse or amplify with new symptoms. Internal HIVES in your throat from the snake venom. You're absolutely right, listen to your body - it's telling you something right now and it's not saying drink more water.

You could be right, I guess only time will tell. The water seemed to help my cough.. I was just sharing my experience. It may not work for everyone but it worked for me. Like I said, I had the cough before I started this medication, and it hasn't gotten worse so I don't think there is any connection.

I wouldn't be so harsh re: the snake venom thing. It saved my life a long time ago. I hemmorraged after having my tonsils removed when I was seven years old. The only thing, after hours of bleeding and multiple transfusions that stopped it was a drug derived from snake venom that contained a clotting agent. One shot directly into my jugular vein and the bleeding stopped. I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for snake venom so.. long live snakes.. and their venom! There are always two sides to everything, and with every drug there is good and bad. We have to weigh whether the side effects are worth continuing the medication. If it's just a minor annoyance I can live with it if the drug is lowering my BP, which it is. If the cough gets worse, or I develop additional intolerable side effects I would definitely ask my doctor to take me off it. The scary part is.. with a new drug the effects could be even worse.

ONE MONTH....after one month of being on the drug....if I coughed it turned into a panic attack...don't even know what that is because I have never had one.....the coughing is so severe and the fluid so much the coughing causes the fluid to choke you. Why are so many American's suffering with HP so much? I am trying the DASH DIET to see how it works. It is very good that you know this website/blog and you will know for sure if any of the side effects are bothering you.

I beat myself up everyday because I took this drug for 5 years without doing the research I should have done. I had a baby five years ago and I got the severe fatigue and palpitations, but was told it was post partum stuff and it would go away. The fatigue never did and I was told it was because I ddint exercise and needed to lose 25 lbs. I mean severe debilitating fatigue.
I spent thousands and thousands on tests to find out what this debilitating cough was. I lost out on my dream job cause It was a phone job and I couldnt talk 30 seconds without violently coughing. This was not a regular cough. I became almost like a hermit cause people would stare at you. before I went out in public I would always carry water with me not cause I was thirsty, but it would wash done those awful secretions. I carried water in my purse.
Then I started getting real big lips and a lump in my throat they said it was a food allergy and to take benadryl. Then I got rashes and more money was spent on creams. They gave my problem some fancy name.

How do I know if something is causing a build up of bradykinin in my lungs, what kind of long term damage has been done? I have yet to find an independent study on this topic? As long as people ar ebeing paid to promote medicines, I have reservations.
