Kitmis, I also have mirena. I have had it for about 2 full months now and had put in about 10 weeks after I had my second child. Just as you I experienced excruciatin pain when I first had it put in place. The pain wen away in about 2 weeks after that. Since it was put in I have been put on prozac because of depression, I feel like I'm constantly having menstrural cramps, have not stoppped spotting and feel extremelysick and weak all of the time. I honestly think that it all has to do with Mirena because before I had it put in I did not feel like this at all. Nor did I feel this way after having my frist child. However, just oposite of you, I have lost a massive amount of weight. I gained 40 pounds with my second child who was born on 4-30-08. At that point I weighed approximately 155 pounds. Now, only for months later I weigh about 107 pounds. Keeping in mind that I am 5' 7'', I look disgusting! I am going to call tomorrow to have this thing removed and I'll keep you updated about my situation.
Sorry you are having side effects as well,i wish you all the best,i didnt know it was mirena causing my problems until i googled it and realised it caused most of my medical problems.
Good Luck.
Please keep me updated.
I have had problems as well, but until reading your post had not associated them with Mirena. I had my Mirena put in after the birth of my fourth daughter. The delivery had been traumatic and I had to have an emergency C-section. My other daughters births had all been vaginal and I lost all my pregnancy weight after delivery. I have always been a very small person, weighing from 90lbs to 100lbs. After the c-section I had not lost any weight from my pregnancy at all. I was attributing my symptoms to PPD or Cesarean Depression. Having the Mirena put in was excruciating and I was in so much pain that I used the left over pain medication from my C-section. I then bled heavily for three months. I had to change my pad every 15 minutes and finally just used Depends. No joke, I bled that bad. The bleeding finally stopped after four months and I began to have horrible stomach cramps. The cramps are non-stop and do not let up. I am worried that I may have a tumor. I have been unable to loose weight, in fact, I have gained additional weight. I am very active and I do not over eat. I also have very sore and tender breasts. Intercourse is painful for both me and my husband. The wires from Mirena have left cuts on his penis. My skin is very dry also and I have developed these scales all over my arms and legs. I think it may be psoriasis. I did not have this problem prior to Mirena. I have severe back pain, headaches, and severe depression. I took Prozac for months but it seemed to make my depression worse. I feel tired and sluggish constantly. I am now having a problem with acne, again, I never had a problem with this prior to Mirena. I also have been bloated. I also am worried about thyroid problems. Thank you for your informative post. I have only had Mirena for about six months now but it will be coming out!
I to have had the Mirena. I had it in for 10 months, the day I had it put in I had horrable pain couldn't even drive home that pain lasted for a couple weeks and bleed everyday for the first few months. Within a month of it being put in my breast were sore, I had phantom baby kicks, my tummy popped out I look pregnet, and I got severaly depressed, got put on Prosac it help some but then I would get it hard again with depression while I was still on Prosac so the Dr would up my dose. I didn't relize Mirena had anything to do with my problems until I googeled it and went in and had it removed. I have had the thing out of me for 6 months my cramps are still horrable to the point I'm barley sleeping every day of every month and I never had that problem before. My deppresion disapeared soon after I had it removed, but the weight is still sticking on. My case isn't that bad I'm sorry to all who has went through such pain bc of the Mirena company they need to pay.
I had Mirena for three years, after the birth of my second baby. Insertion was awful, totally painful, and, like many of you, I immediately suffered from horrible side effects which for THREE YEARS did not suspect where due to Mirena! I checked my thyroid, wondered what was wrong with me. Felt strange sudden heat waves, depression, fatigue, moodiness, acne, 35 pounds of weight gain in 3 years and absolutely no weight loss no matter what I did, insomnia. I'd never been hospitalized in my life, but while I was on Mirena, I was diagnosed with Alopecia, was paralyzed a few months later and diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, then diagnosed with depression and on Prozac - and I just had that blasted IUD removed yesterday.
I'm apalled to read of so many horrible side effects we've all had to suffer for so many years. Bayer should be ashamed of themselves! Do they realize that little plastic thing has thrown our bodies out of whack? How long is it going to take for me to get my body back?!?!?!?!
For those of you thinking of removal, DO IT! My experience with removal wasn't painful, but I am very moody today, very angry, very tired, and with cramps. There is a reason why we ovulate, and a 'why' for our menstrual cycle. To think how abnormal not having a period for three years is makes me wonder what on Earth made me want to put in in the first place. Do not, for anything, compromise your bodies, ladies! We have only one, and as I sit here, wondering when I'm going to have my periods back, my normal hormones, my SELF, I really wish I'd never even heard the name Mirena.
