I am having mine removed tomorrow and am also worried. I have only had it in since 8/18/08. I didn't realize all the things that people have been experiencing while on it. Honestly, I stumbled upon this site b/c I googled Mirena and weight gain...thus leading me here. I was horrified when I read what some people are experiencing. I have had mild headaches, fatigue, some dizziness but not often, swollen ankles one night ( which I rarely ever get even when I was pregnant ) and I been feeling bloated. I am hoping after a few weeks of having it removed my body will go back to its normal. I always had very regular periods and now Im worried I messed it all up. I'm 25 and have 2 children and am all done for awhile so my Dr. strongly suggested this for me. I was skeptical, and now I wish I went with my gut feeling. Although my symptoms are not as bad as what I been reading I don't want to take any chances in the long run. I have always used just condoms and never had a problem. My children were planned. I'm sticking with condoms. I'm all set with having artificial hormones released in my body. I wish you luck. Take Care.

I think some of it depends on how long you had it in and whether or not you still had your cycle while the Mirena was in your body. I only had mine for 5 months, had awful side effects and so I had it removed. The bloating and brain fog decreased immediately. The dizziness and heart palpitations took a while longer. It's been 7 months now and I am almost back to normal. I did not experience any "crash" like some do. Two days after removal, I spotted for 2 days and that was it....I don't think that has been the experience of many, though. Good luck!!

I had mine removed a while ago. Didn't hurt at all to have removed. Horribly painful to have put in. A very very light cramp, about 1 sec and then nothing. It took a couple days to stop bleeding and go back to normal. My periods were a little weird afterwards but all my side effects went away very quickly.

Hi I had mine taken out in late aug. No side effetcs at all except feeling great again!!! I did not even bleed. I do have a really goos OBGYN though, very gentle.I had no "crash". I put on 8lbs in 6 weeks with Mirena even with diet and excercise..well i lost the 8lbs in 4 days after having it removed..the bloating was gone the next day so i am assuming it was water weight.. good luck and i hope you start feeling better...

I had the Mirena in for 5 weeks and when I went for the checkup I had told the doctor I was gaining weight and having terrible mood swings, she told me it may be my thyroid so I told her to check that and I would leave it in until the resuls came in. I went home that evening and researched it, later that day I called the doctor and made an appointment to have it taken out. It has been three days since I have had it removed and I feel like my old self again. I hope and pray that the weight I have gained will be able to come off eventually. It is the best choice I ever made. I hope you experience the same positive effects I have. Good Luck
