I am a 51 y/o white female that has been on Lipitor for 2 years....

I am a 51 y/o white female that has been on Lipitor for 2 years. I am 5' 1" and when I had to go on it my cholesterol was 267 I weighed 112 lbs. I was shocked.... my doctor told me weight had nothing to do with cholesterol. She kept a close watch on me and my cholesterol came down...... and then my ex-husband of 17 years and I re-connected and got back together and I moved so I had to get another primary care physician. I took all my meds to her, she also kept a close watch on everything. At this time my cholesterol is down to 109 and I asked if I could stop taking it, as I take quite a lot of meds, due to different things and if I could stop anything it would be great, but she said it I stopped it, my cholesterol would go right back up. So since I am not experiencing any side effects I'm okay with continuing it. I surely hate to hear what you all are experiencing with your Lipitor..... could your doc try another cholesterol medication? The only one of my meds that is giving me any problem is TOPAMAX........ that we are using as a Migraine preventative! HORRORS!!! Today is pretty good day. But my cognitive abilities are in the trash... I say the wrong word when I mean something else...... I search my mind looking for a memory...... I am also on disability since 2002 because of the Migraines....... I have has them since 1978, but they got progressively worse over the years until I was sick more days per week, sometimes more than 7-10 days at the time, having to be in the hospital being rehydrated and on IV pain meds.......... and as awful as the TOPAMAX is.....it has been reduced the migraines to approx 2 per month and they do not last nearly as long. So sorry, I got waaay off topic, but I know that it is not the Lipitor that is giving me the side effects as it the last med I had to go on and I had no new side effects....... but that TOPAMAX is kicking my behind.

Sounds like you have many issues. I suggest you find a dr. who specializes with naturopathic medicine. All of these drugs that you are using cause side effects. Unfortunately, most m.d's, all they know is to push more drugs. I learned the hard way. There are many natural products and alternative treatments.

Good luck.

Lipitor DOES cause short term memory loss. Try stopping the LIPITOR for a few weeks & see if your memory improves..........I bet it does...

I have never taken Lipitor - hardly any medications at all.

But I have had relatives that were prescribed a lot of medications - among them statins (Zocor).

I am sure my relatives got one medication after the other for what was acutally side effects or drug-induced diseases.

You get a new disease from your medication.

For years I had no idea about these issues, but then my father was drugged at an old peoples´home (Melleril and Aricept) and I became very angry.

He already had more than his share of medications.

This happened in 2003 and I had just got my Internet-connection.

Long live the Internet, that`s where I found the information to "defend" my father from further damage!

Little by little I started to search for information on different kinds of medications - among them statins.

My father passed away a long time ago, but I have not stopped.

Another close friend took statins for many years and I am sure that his terrible pains in arms, legs, shoulders, feet and hips had to do with statins (Zocor), but then it was too late.

He also suffered burning, tingling and numbness.

He got irritated, had problems to sleep, to eat (problems with his throat), had ringing noice in his ears etc.

He got more and more problems with his memory.

It had been fantastic.

In his case It didn´t come all at once but little by little.

All statins have similar side effects.

The side effects can come at once or after many years.

The pharmaceutical companies/doctors have managed to brain wash people to think that they will live loger and better if they reduce their cholesterol levels to a lower and lower point.

It`s the same all over the world.

I live in Sweden.

You have cholesterol in your body because you need it.

It`s very important for many different functions - your brain for instance!

So "educate" yourself.

Don´t stop taking statins - or other medications - without knowing why you do it and how you should do it.

When it comes to stopping statins I think you can find some advice on the webb.

Google for "Stopped our statins" - an informative site.

Don`t take medications without really knowing why you do it.

Ask your doctor for benefits/risks and so on.

Try to do some "research" of your own.

Here are som books:

The Great Cholesterol Con (Antony Colpo)

The Cholesterol Myths (Uffe Ravnskov)

Malignant Medical Myths (Joel F. Kauffman)

Overdosed America (John Abramson)

The Truth About The Drug Companies (Marcia Angell)

I could also suggest some webbsites but they will just be eraced so look for more information by googling the names of the books/writers.

To see unnecessary suffering from medications made a deep impression on me and that`s why I like to encourage other people to look for unbiased information.

Good luck!

Did my memory in so bad I couldn't remember my long term neighbour's name, called my surgeon Mr surgeon couldn't remeber his name. I said the f and c word in front of my friend the retired hospital chaplin & catholic priest this is all from me a person that could commuincate at any level. These are just a couple of dozens of disgusting, embarrasing and sometimes violent incidents. I hang my head in absolute shame even tho none of it is my fault. Post your medicine to a politician or a drug company rep but I would stop taking it yourself. Cheers

FYI I have suffered with migraines for years. Most lasting 3-4 days and medication didn't help. I finished a round of 10 weeks of acupunture a few months back and WOW, I had only one is the last 4 months. Think about it. I know it sounds wacky, but sometimes when you are in that much pain, you'll try anything. I am soo happy I did it. I have a whole new life!!

I have taken lipitol 10mg for 4 and half years. In the first year I experienced nausea and stomach pain for no digestive reasons and the symptom disappeared by itself. In the past 6 months I experienced frequent dizziness and saying wrong words. I am not old enough to have memory lost. I am working in an intellectual field and energetic. I sometimes experienced 10 to 15 times a day saying wrong words, such as, open the door----open the window, give me my bag----give me my jacket, park the car in lot 3---park the car in lot 5. The symptom disappeared for a few weeks and came back again. EEG did not show anything wrong. Can anybody tell me where i should look for?
