I am a 43 year old male in good health that decided to get off lipitor about 3 days ago due to the advice of my physician. I have been on it for 3 years at 20 mg daily. I am an avid runner completing 3 marathons in the last 4years, but lately haven't been able to run more than a mile or so without feeling tightness in my abs, legs, hips, and most recently my hands and elbows have mild to moderate pain. I've been noticing this over the past few months or so. I always thought it was due to over training, but I am convinced these are not normal muscle soreness/strain and I am eager to share my results as to how I feel in a few weeks/months. Today, which is day 3 without the drug, I have INCREASED pain in my hand, and an overall fatigue feeling. Has anyone else noticed this upon stopping the drug? God help all of us. This can't be doing mankind any good other than making the drug companies rich, and unfortunately, most physicians believe that these statins are wonder drugs, and prescribe them like candy.

You are very wise . . . .I stopped taking this dangerous drug in 2-08 and I still have many side effects. Atleast I am taking natural products to help it and control my cholesterol. I am also doing alternative treatments. It is very frustrating that most drs. don't know about the side effects of the drugs that they continue to push . . . . . very sad, that's all they know.

Mooshoe, You are correct. Physicians prescribe lipitor as if it were candy. A complete disgrace to the medical profession.

Amazing that your physician agreed to your stopping of Lipitor. Unfortunately I've just read that McCain is on cholesterol lowering meds.

Sorry M8 but I got a lot worse B4 I got better. Some side effects instantly improved but others certainly far worsened B4 getting better. Ubiquinol 2 - 3 x 100 mg spread through the day, magnessiun citrate powder, fish oil and 4000 mg vit c is what I do and it helps. I certainly suffered mental incapacity along with physical incapacity. Be patient and good luck from New Zealand. This is the pits 4 so called preventitive medicine.

Mooshoe, I am a 57 y/o male who has stayed fairly active. I am a soccer referee for high school and youth leagues. I don't run marathons, but I run enough to stay fit for refereeing. I was started on 10 mg Lipitor in March 2008. About two weeks ago I started having joint pain particularly in my wrists, elbows, ankles and knees. This was accompanied by soreness and tightness in my leg and arm muscles, particularly in my calves and forearms. I decided it must be the Lipitor and scheduled a meeting with my proscribing MD. He had no problem stopping the Lipitor. It has now been 10 days since I stopped and to date I have seen know changes. How long did it take for you to hopefully resolve your symptoms? Did you try to exercise during that initial period? I'm reduced to walking on a treadmill, and even that has pain in my calves. I can't run worth a lick as it is too painful. Again, I would like to hear if this is resolving for you.
Thanks, soccrdad
