I am a 26 yr old newly married woman and have been using Yasmin for 7 months. I've experienced really sharp breast pain and sore calves occasionally whilst on the pill, but also have seen benefits of using this contraceptive - lighter, more regular periods, clearer skin and less greasy hair (these use to be big problems for me). I haven't had any severe mood swings either, as some have mentioned of having. I think with all contraceptives there will be good and bad side effects - just depends which brands you can cope better with. Just wondering if Yasmin can cause infertility if you take it for too long??

Please be cautious about your "sore calves." This COULD be a symptom of blood clots in your legs - otherwise known as DVTs (Deep Vein Thombosis). About 4 out of 1000 women on the pill per year experience blood clots. They usually are in the legs first but may also present in the lungs (pulmonary emboli). If you happen to have a blood clotting disorder such as Factor V Leiden, your risk rises to 30 out of 1000 per year. Do you have any blood relatives who have had blood clots? If so, I suggest you be screened for Factor V Leiden. It is present in about 5% of the population.

You also mention "sharp breast pain." Do you literally mean in the breasts or do you mean in your chest? Pains upon deep breathing? If so this could be a symptom of pulmonary emboli. If this is the case, I urge you to call your doctor immediately or go to an ER and ask to be tested for blood clots. Tell them you're on Yasmin.

Unfortunately, I learned the above after the death of my 18 year old daughter from pulmonary emboli in her third month on Yasmini. She complained of shortness of breath on a Tuesday. The doctor she saw Wednesday diagnosed anxiety. On Friday she collapsed and died 8 hours later.

Don't let this happen to you or anyone you know who is also on birth control pills. Know all the symptoms of blood clots in the legs and the lungs. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop any of the symptoms.

Hi, my daughter experienced a short sharp cough and breathlessness after 2 months of being on yasmin. Six weeks later she died from a pulmonary embolism, suddenly she was with us then within a few hours she was not here anymore. She was an intelligent bubbly person with a wonderful life ahead for her. Please check with your doctor and try to find out if there is any family history of clottin or strokes in your family.
