I was a competitive runner with a number of sub 3 hour marathons under my belt before I was prescribed statins for elevated cholesterol 2 years ago. The first go round was 40mg zocor but muscle soreness and loss of strength started within 2 months. Switched to NIASPAN but couldn't tolerate it. The last 7 months have been on 10mg of Lipitor and now have intense pain in my legs, soreness in my wrist and thumb and swollen feet. I can still run but much less than before and much slower. I regularly go to the gym but have seen a steady decrease in the amount of weight I am able to lift. I have a blood test in a couple of days and will be looking for myalgia again. I have discontinued the statin and don't plan to start again. I was healthier before the DR decided to "help" me with my cholesterol problem.

Good that you stopped that poison drug. Unfortunately, drs. all they is to push dangerous drugs. There are many natural products for health issues.

The blood tests do not always show statin damage. It is possible to have normal CK with statin induced myopathy. Case history demonstrates this well. You did the right thing stopping the statin. Your story is very familiar. Healthy active people start a statin, and then they get sick.

You are on to it now make sure you stay with it. I was 120 kilos 25 ciggies a day occassional binge drinker swimming 40 lengths in 26 mins and 120 lengths non stop in about 80 mins and still did my normal daily activities eg carpet cleaning gardening kayaking etc. Now no ciggies, 95 kilos, no alcohol to speak of drink vegetable juices and 40 lengths takes 40 minutes and i wouldn't entertain the idea of 120 lengths as to normal daily activites that is a thing of the past. Jim Beam and the ciggie makers are far more deserving of a heart foundation tick than the statin makers. Good luck to you.
